SnowDude and I are getting splitboards soon . . . patiently waiting for them to arrive. We tagged along anyway on a backcountry trip with some Mammoth friends. Four skiers, one splitboarder, and two of us on snowshoes/snowboards. The four skiers made the summit and skiid down. SnowDude and I made the bowl (packs were heavy, and we weren't acclimatized for a early Saturday climb), and the splitboarder got altitude sickness. It was a lot of work, but I had a GREAT time!!!! Can't wait to get the splitboards so we don't have to carry the snowshoes. We all carried avy beacons, probes, and ice axes.

Real Cool!

How do those splitboards work? DO they just snap together? And then do you move the bindings?

Can you go on each side of a tree with one of those splitboards? ;)

Great pictures! And perfect timing. Jerry and I are doing an overnight cross country ski to Glacier Point later this month. The spring-like weather was making us feel detached from snow. Now, I'm excited again.

We're headed up to Yosemite this weekend. BowlderSon wants to try snowboarding, so we'll sign him up for a lesson. BowlderGal and I will stick to XC skiing, thank you very much....

Adventurist: The splitboard separates into two parts (http://www.priorsnowboards.com/boards_khyber_splitboard.php#), you switch to opposite sides, slide the bindings on, put skins on and crampons if needed. At the top, you put the board together, slide the bindings in and ride down.

Aero, I've done that on ski's! Lucky for me the tree was less than crotch high.

MIT: Bailey's a big boy now! He was in the truck while we had dinner. I can't believe how big he is now!

Bison, come to CA, we have lots of snow!

BM, BS will love snowboarding. Don't forget the helmet!

wbp, the snow should be good later this month.

Komkeen, snowboarding and skiing is fun! Especially when you can ride/ski down soft, powdery, untracked snow! Can't wait to go again!

Wow...thats expensive versus regular boards!

But I guess its better than having snowshoes to climb up?

Thanks for the link.
