After making a silnylon pack, I came to the conclusion that for my use it's not a suitable material for a backpack. It hasn't failed in any way so far, but I just don't feel good about using it. I don't like the fact that I've got to be careful with it while using it. Also it doesn't take much fabric to build a backpack anyway so the weight savings using silnylon are actually not as much as you would think. A few ounces.

Now that is a little extreme!

This pack has been out for a while and I have thought about picking one up. I like the idea of using it as a stuff sack for your sleeping bag. You could then use it as a peak bag or for day hikes once you establish a base camp.

I still use the G4. From the company formerly known as GVP Gear - now Gossamer Gear. These guys are "keepin it real" but I feel the G4 is more a better bag becuase for the additional weight it is more flexible in its uses. Volume is really not an issue.

I must say though - I put on a big ol' Osprey something or other with about 60 pounds in it and the suspension made it more comfortable than 30 in a G4 - but that was over 5 miles, not 15.

Perhaps I would have been better off not tasting the forbidden fruit of a well constructed, "heavy" (4.5 lbs), internal frame pack.

Product = GoLite Breeze
WEIGHT: 11 oz.
CAPACITY: 3050 - 4575 c.i.

I saw these for $34 on closeout at REI-outlet and got one for my Dad as a daypack.
When it arrived I was sufficiently impressed to geta 2nd for me. At 11oz I use it in winter as a peakbagging day pack. So far it has been pretty rugged.
Main winter pack is a monstrous 6Lb something 5500cu in Lowe Alpine Contour IV.

I bought a breeze last year and used in on a 2 night trip to the Smokies. I enjoyed everything about it except fot the two rocks Opie slipped in it when I wasn't looking. *bassturd*

Oh come now. It is more than just a stuff sack with straps.

Roll top closure
Compression cord system
Rear bellows pocket
Shoulder strap pockets

Why this thing is a veritable cornucopia of pack options.

Plus, it would only cost me $89.99.

I can't help it. It's a disease.

I agree, my heavy North Face pack is much more comfortable to carry than my GoLite. (stupid GoLite, grumble grumble.) I think with some modifications tho it wouldn't be so bad.

sorry to hear that Pixie. We have two Golite packs and they are our primary summer packs, we love 'em.
