Peak Bagging the Whites
I just had the honor of watching this documentary and was really impressed with how well it's maker, John, captured the essence of bagging the 48, and also hiking in general.

For those of you who don't know, many hikers work hard to summit all 48 peaks over 4000' in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Though I live in Maine, the Whites are only a little more than an hour away from me, and I'm booking along at completing said list (I've bagged 20 of them since August, and plan to have the 48 list completed by early summer of this year).

Back to the documentary... Through poetic narration, interviews, and stunning cinematography, John tells his own personal story of compeleting the 48, as well as various others who have also completed the list (including New England politicians), and are moving on to other, grander challenges here in New England.

You can find more information and even order the DVD through his website at

Procedes go to benefit the American Diabetes Association, so it's for a great cause!

John is also coming to visit next week and talk with my students about the challenges of making a documentary, for which I'm grateful. He's a great guy, so check out his work if you have a few moments. :-)

More info

John spoke to my students today about making his documentary and his experiences along the way. He's not just a great backpacker and filmmaker, but a great public speaker as well. The kids really enjoyed hearing about what he went through to get the documentary done.

Check out http://www.48movie.com/ and consider ordering his movie. All proceeds go to the American Diabetes Association, so it's also for a great cause. :-)

I think Artex has been busy filming "Lost," where the plane crash survivors are routinely battling wild boars!
