After we bought our motorcycles, we cut back on hiking and we are now "out of it", lol. I have e-mailed Sarbar1, but we are not ready to join in on hikes yet. My husband did do Mount Townsend when his relatives visited this past summer, but I think it almost killed him. The relatives are both 30 and in great physical shape from running and working out in the gym so the hike did not impact them as much. I've done Mt. Townsend twice, but passed that time around, because I didn't want to hold back the group.” 2:56:38 PM 2/11/05 “So I guess aero is out right now, procuring a beer, a videocamera, and some webspace to host the resultant video?” 3:00:39 PM 2/11/05 “rock!! lol” 3:01:14 PM 2/11/05 “I am famous for making the best salats. Especially my greek salad suppose to be the best. my german cooking is okay, i just don't cook it that much. I am famous for burning pizza. does that count?” 3:03:05 PM 2/11/05 “I'm an expert at Enertia meals!” 3:05:31 PM 2/11/05 “Gemini, for homemade pizza, cook it on the bottom shelf at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. I have an electric oven, and oven temps vary, so check a few minutes ahead of time. I put a lot of mozzarella on top, so it may not fully melt, so I put the pan under the broiler on low and keep the oven door open so I can watch it and let it slightly bubble. If it bubbles too much or turns brown, all the moisture comes out of the mozzarella, then it sucks.” 3:17:31 PM 2/11/05 “heehee, that's not the problem. I am known for my multi tasking... well once in a while I have too many things going all at once and stuff burns. :( i don't care...I make 'em eat it anyway. heehee last edited: 2/11/05 3:19:07 PM” 3:18:43 PM 2/11/05 “Naked Karaoke?” 3:22:59 PM 2/11/05 “Cooking wild game. By 19, I had killed one, skinned one, cooked one on a fire, if it lived in north America. By 20 I stopped. They say I lost my Nerve. I say I didn't need it.” 3:24:27 PM 2/11/05 “Gemini, yep, you've got the answer to your problem down. There is to be no multi-tasking while baking. One way to circumvent that problem is by getting a timer and setting it or deligating the cooking of the pizza to someone who cares if they eat it burnt or not. That can be a real incentive for help in the kitchen:)” 3:27:47 PM 2/11/05 “My cheesecakes and 20 pound deep fried turkeys.” 3:32:38 PM 2/11/05 “Pasta sauce/gravy. Alfredo & Red.” 3:37:07 PM 2/11/05 “I am known for my antipasto platter on the holidays. It's filled with proscuitto, provolone, salami, baby artichokes, olives, roasted red peppers, mozzarella with carrots and celery to section off the different foods. It is quite beautiful. I remember the first time hubby came over for dinner and he saw this huge platter and thought that was dinner. He loved it, but then came the store bought, but store homemade ravioli, then the meat course, then the pastries. He'll never forget that day. Then when I said next was ravioli, he thought I meant Chef Boy R Dee out of the can. He never had real homemade pasta cheese ravioli with homemade sauce.” 3:43:26 PM 2/11/05 “Lipstick Hiker, can I come and eat with your family.” 3:46:37 PM 2/11/05 “lips - I want to be your next husband. Yum Yum.” 3:47:27 PM 2/11/05 “Most ladies that I know, when you ask what meal they cook the best. They give you that deer in the head lights look.” 3:53:06 PM 2/11/05 “I have to say that was a special dinner. We only do antipasto platters on the holidays. It takes us all day to eat. First the antipasto, hours later the lasagna, then roast beef that's been made tender from cooking 3 hours in the sauce and it can be cut with a fork it's so tender, then pastries. We start a 2pm and finish at about 8pm. I would love to have you all over to taste authentic Italian cooking. Jarred tomato sauce tastes nothing like the real stuff. Real spaghetti sauce is much milder and less spicier and made tastier by the roast beef, pork and meatballs cooked in it.” 3:54:47 PM 2/11/05 “Holidays are fine with me, I don't take up allot of space. Hell I can sit outside for homemade Pasta.” 3:57:33 PM 2/11/05 “"Real" sauce can be very spicy, especially if made by a Suthern Wop. ;)” 3:57:48 PM 2/11/05 “My husband's ex-fiance before me could not cook, and hubby was used to your standard country meat and potatoes, which is good too, but there are so many good ethnic dishes out there that are flavorful. I think that's why when I met him, he used a lot of ketchup, which he doesn't do anymore.” 3:57:52 PM 2/11/05 “Bear, you know every Italian swears by their own sauce as being the best. I brown hunks of roast beef that I cut up into two pieces with some type of pork, take it out, then carmelize onion, add garlic and let cook for a few seconds, then add tomato puree with some salt. The only other seasoning is fresh basil leaves. I may throw in a bay leaf or two. Towards the end, I add in tomato paste. When I make a big pot of sauce, I tell my husband that it's like gold to me. I don't add oregano, because I think that should just be used to make stews.” 4:03:30 PM 2/11/05 “pasta in a creamy basil and garlic sauce.... brownies.... chicken and home made noodles.... my lemonade almond iced tea.... grilled chicken...” 4:03:31 PM 2/11/05 “I used to be able to chug a 12 ounce beer (out of a glass) in 2.3 seconds. Its not Aero's "less than 2" but I didn't have carbonated propulsion like shotgunning. I was the anchor on a lot of "canoe" races in college. Line of folks, first one chugs and puts cup, upside down on head, second one chugs etc etc. Last guy (the anchor) in line chugs 2 . . .and it goes back up the line. the other thing I am famous (infamous) for is my long tongue. And I'll just leave it at that.” 4:05:56 PM 2/11/05 “You can't buy a good meal. I've tried, in fact I'm going now to try again.” 4:06:48 PM 2/11/05 “Also, the meat and onion is browned in olive oil. I never use vegetable oil. If I make french fries, I use canola oil. After using olive oil all your life, vegetable oil smells greasy.” 4:06:58 PM 2/11/05 “It Is.” 4:08:56 PM 2/11/05 “wow...and I thought this was about food!!!” 4:12:11 PM 2/11/05 “I prefer the veggie oil for some things like when I need really hot oil. Olive oil tastes better but it starts to burn before reaching a higher temperature.” 4:13:28 PM 2/11/05 “Peanut oil is best for that, has a very high smoking point.” 4:13:58 PM 2/11/05 “i use grape oil for cooking. Hard to find though in this area. Kroger got it. Olive oil for salads and stuff” 4:15:22 PM 2/11/05 “I remember being a kid and my mother having a "fat jar" in the kitchen that she used. Gone are the days... I've heard that popping corn in bacon grease is the best thing ever.” 4:16:23 PM 2/11/05 “Nigal, I do believe that vegetable oil has a lower burning point than olive oil like you said, and oil has a lower burning point than butter, so when you cook something with butter, it's good to add a drop of oil to it. I don't know if vegetable oil has a lower burning point than canola oil, but I have no problem deep frying potatoes in canola and it's better for you.” 4:17:14 PM 2/11/05 “You have to do something with that bacon grease. When the stars are aligned right, I put a tablespoon or so in my refried beans. Yum.” 4:18:01 PM 2/11/05 Beer shooting “It's out of the can; open a hole in the bottom side, hold up to mouth and open the tab! Stand back!” 4:32:57 PM 2/11/05 “My pasta and bean dishes are bacon flavored. What I do to cut down on the bacon grease is to use a flavorful hickory smoked bacon, then cook it slowly in olive oil. The small amount of bacon grease that comes out will infuse itself into the olive oil and make it taste like bacon oil. So after some of the oil comes out into the olive oil, I take the bacon out. I put it back in when the beans or peas are cooking so no more fat really comes out, just the flavoring of the hickory smoke and the meat of the bacon.” 4:33:23 PM 2/11/05 “You people are making me hungry! That's it! I'm coming down to Federal Way tonight! LOL!” 4:35:47 PM 2/11/05 Stovie: “20lb Fried turkey?!?!? You can fry one that big? I've not tried anything above 13lbs. I'd need a helluva lot larger pot then the one I have to do a 20lbr. I guess I'm famous for my fried turkeys too. My marinade is simple... beer and tony Chacherere (sp?) injected. yum yum yummy!” 4:41:30 PM 2/11/05 “pixie, well, we're going up north for dinner, lol. My dog even eats good, probably better than some people in third world countries. I give her Merrick's brand dog food called Grammie's Pot Pie. It's big chicken chunks in a little gravy. I have to cut up the meat for tiny Chihuahua face:) No preservatives, no coloring or artificial flavorings. Paul Newman makes an all organic dog food, but only the first ingredient is meat, and there should be two, because most of their protein should come from a meat source. I may try it out on her. It's $1.99 a can, but Grammie's Pot Pie is $1.95 a can, because they are both ultra premium dog foods you can't buy in Walmart, grocery stores, Petsmart or Petco etc., just small natural dog food stores. I'm trying to make her live forever:)” 4:44:24 PM 2/11/05 “Man... I'd like to try some of that dog food. Sounds good. I've bakes my own dog treats before. I've eaten quite a few of them too. Home Made dog treats are good!” 4:55:55 PM 2/11/05 “making shine . does that count?” 4:59:20 PM 2/11/05 “DeoreDX, I was going to bake some dog treats with peanut butter if I found that natural peanut butter doesn't have sugar. I don't know if it does, then I decided against it, because the flour (starch) in the mix on a dogs teeth will turn to sugar and rot my dogs teeth. Chihuahuas have a tendency to lose their teeth, and I haven't been cleaning hers. If I did, it wouldn't hurt to give her some peanut butter cookie snacks that are homemade. She won't eat hard biscuts and other doggie treats have sugar in them, plus flour. I give her this great oven baked all natural chicken jerky from costco. I think by just giving her that, it's kept her teeth in good shape. The vet sees very little tartar and I've not started cleaning her teeth yet. I'll start after I bring her in for a professional cleaning.” 5:02:22 PM 2/11/05 “Sure! Can I have some?” 5:02:33 PM 2/11/05 “Do y'all know what dawg food taste like? Same as it smells! Delicious!” 5:03:13 PM 2/11/05 “I have a library book out with a recipe for peanut butter treats: 1 cup + 1 tbspn water 1 cup smooth natural peanut butter 1 tsp. vanilla 4 cups whole wheat flour 1/2 cup cornmeal Mix together until you can knead the dough and it hold together. Roll out 1/8 thick. Poke holes in dough with a fork. Cut dough into bite sized pieces. Place 1/2" apart on baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 18 min. or until firm. Take out pan and cool completely. Then reduce oven to 300 degrees and bake for 20 min onger or until hard. They can stay fresh for 30 days in a tightly sealed container. I'm not sure if the cornmeal is the best ingredient to use, though I don't think it's particularly bad, but maybe there is a better substitute.” 5:09:08 PM 2/11/05 “I'm going to be annoyingly famous for talking about my Chihuahua pretty soon and her ultra premium dog food, lol. Just take a look at the "Oh honey, you're such a beautiful dog" thread. I posted links to the food I feed her. If you read the ingredients, you would eat it too, well maybe.” 5:15:55 PM 2/11/05 “Sausage Gravy and Biscuits Spaetzle and Roast Beef w/brown gravy” 5:21:46 PM 2/11/05 “I think I ate more of the treats then I gave to the dogs. ”5:23:04 PM 2/11/05 “Does Moon Shine count?” 5:24:16 PM 2/11/05
