6\' 1\
I\'m looking for a tent with the following characteristics:

Can allow a 6\'1\" male to easily and comfortably lie down without touching the walls and sit up.
Water proofed.
Can hold up for long periods of time under heavy use (i.e. thru-hiking the A.T.)
Not overly expesive.
Lightweight.
1-3 person tent (although 1 may seem too clausterphobic).
Vestibule for cooking in bad weather.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Freestanding or not?

What is the upper limit on weight?

I'm about 5'-10" and have a Kelty Gunnison 2. It seems huge to me. I'm used to a tarptent. I hit my head on the top of the gear loft when I tie it in, but it drapes a good 8-12" below the actual roof of the tent. I have tons of room along the length. It was about $120 or so at backpackingdeals.com

I wouldn't call it lightweight, but I'm used to my 27oz tarptent.

MSR Missing Link
Hey Brock. I'm also 6'1". I'm hesitant to give a full recommendation on the MSR Missing Link, but I just picked it up and have spent two nights in it, and am very happy so far. It's definitely roomy, and only weighs 3 lbs, 0 ounces.

If you google around, you'll find lots of reviews. Overall, it's pretty positive. The Reader's Digest version based on my research and very limited experience is as follows:

Positives:
Very roomy
Very light, especially for size
Great awning/vestibule design

Negatives:
Some reported a leak in the top factory seam, but it's apparently easily fixed with sealant.

Condensation - despite what appears to be a well-thought out ventilation system, condensation is still a problem. However, this is true in most single-wall tents.

Room to set up - Because it's relatively big, and guy lines are needed for the vestibule, it requires a lot of space to be set up.

-------------------

I'm looking forward to using it primarily during bug season. I'll have ample room to move around while the black flies and mosquitoes are left outside.

Best of luck.
