6'1" male looking for tentView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 18 of 18 messages posted.
6\' 1\ “I\'m looking for a tent with the following characteristics: Can allow a 6\'1\" male to easily and comfortably lie down without touching the walls and sit up. Water proofed. Can hold up for long periods of time under heavy use (i.e. thru-hiking the A.T.) Not overly expesive. Lightweight. 1-3 person tent (although 1 may seem too clausterphobic). Vestibule for cooking in bad weather. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.” 1:37:13 PM 2/21/05 “Freestanding or not? What is the upper limit on weight?” 5:31:31 PM 2/21/05 “well, if it were a 3 person you could sleep at an angle fill out your profile” 5:39:54 PM 2/21/05 “I'm about 5'-10" and have a Kelty Gunnison 2. It seems huge to me. I'm used to a tarptent. I hit my head on the top of the gear loft when I tie it in, but it drapes a good 8-12" below the actual roof of the tent. I have tons of room along the length. It was about $120 or so at backpackingdeals.com I wouldn't call it lightweight, but I'm used to my 27oz tarptent. last edited: 2/21/05 6:15:24 PM” 6:13:41 PM 2/21/05 “"....fill out your profile” WinterSolstice 5:39:54 PM 2/21/05 (chuckle)” 6:28:25 PM 2/21/05 “keep quiet ya old hippee :), it may be a troll, or at least you want to make sure if there is plenty of leg room, next time you stumble into someone else's tent for the night last edited: 2/21/05 7:24:19 PM” 7:19:26 PM 2/21/05 “Yoo funny girl >8^P” 7:37:52 PM 2/21/05 “looks like they kept ya tethered to the lean to” 8:07:46 PM 2/21/05 “The leanto was the place to be!” 8:16:32 PM 2/21/05 “REI half dome 2” 11:35:47 PM 2/21/05 “I'm looking for a 6'1" male to carry my tent.” 12:35:33 PM 2/22/05 “Any 6' 1" females out there????” 1:29:35 PM 2/22/05 “haha wingding, think we scared him off” 3:16:37 PM 2/22/05 “Stop being soooo scary!!!” 3:18:22 PM 2/22/05 msr hubba.... “or something else, but I can't remember what it was.” 10:11:41 AM 2/24/05 “Now, who forgot to give brock the usual welcome? LOL (C'mon, if the guys can do it...)” 10:16:29 AM 2/24/05 “MarkO TrollO where are you” 10:20:12 AM 2/24/05 MSR Missing Link “Hey Brock. I'm also 6'1". I'm hesitant to give a full recommendation on the MSR Missing Link, but I just picked it up and have spent two nights in it, and am very happy so far. It's definitely roomy, and only weighs 3 lbs, 0 ounces. If you google around, you'll find lots of reviews. Overall, it's pretty positive. The Reader's Digest version based on my research and very limited experience is as follows: Positives: Very roomy Very light, especially for size Great awning/vestibule design Negatives: Some reported a leak in the top factory seam, but it's apparently easily fixed with sealant. Condensation - despite what appears to be a well-thought out ventilation system, condensation is still a problem. However, this is true in most single-wall tents. Room to set up - Because it's relatively big, and guy lines are needed for the vestibule, it requires a lot of space to be set up. ------------------- I'm looking forward to using it primarily during bug season. I'll have ample room to move around while the black flies and mosquitoes are left outside. Best of luck. last edited: 2/24/05 10:32:00 AM” 10:29:40 AM 2/24/05
