Personally, I'm still in wait and see mode on this. I think immigration laws should be enforced. Having lots of "illegals" that can slip in doesn't work well for a number of reasons. If the economy really needs these people, increase legal immigration.

If the minutemen do just what they say they will do... monitor and report. I don't see the harm in it. If they start roughing people up or shooting at people, there is a problem - but I see no evidence that this is happening. I also see no problem with the ACLU monitoring the minutemen - if that is all they are doing.

To my Christian friends I say "by their fruits ye shall know them," to my management friends, I saw "watch for outcomes, then make and re-evaluate."

I really didn’t understand what the ACLU was doing there. It’s the American Civil Liberties Union, right? Civil as in citizen? They protect the liberties of the citizens of the USA, right? What the heck are they doing looking out for the citizens of Mexico? If they were looking out for the citizens of the USA they would be camped on the border WITH the Minutemen.

The ACLU is the United Nations of America.

U.S. BORDER CONTROL

America's last best chance to reform our border and immigration policies ... before it's too late.

Email Alert ........................

Wednesday, May 4, 2005, McLean, Virginia

H.R. 1986. Allows American Soldiers to Assist the Border Control

Rep. Virgil Goode has reintroduced a bill (H.R. 1986) that would authorize the Secretary of Defense to assign members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps to assist the Department of Homeland Security in the performance of border protection functions.

The Minuteman Project proved that grandmothers in lawn chairs, armed only with radios and binoculars, can stop illegal migration.

But it's not their job to protect our borders, it's the job of the federal government, at leaset that is what is says in Article IV, Section 4 of our Constitution.

Protecting our borders is one of the few legitimate reasons to have a federal government -- but it is the one that our politicians are completely ignoring.

For thet past several years, Congressman Virgil Goode (R-VA) has introduced such legislation and, with our help, has managed to get it passed in the House -- only to see the bill die in the U.S. Senate, where liberals still rule, despite party labels.

At our request, Congressman Goode has just introduced his bill again. It is H.R.1986, and, if we can get enough cosponsors and an overwhelming victory in the House, maybe we can get the Senate to wake up and do their job.

Thanks to the Minuteman Project, a lot of Americans have awakened from their slumber and have discovered the real dangers of open borders and uncontrolled immigration.

This is the best opportunity I have seen in more than a decade for getting Congress to pass a bill to put troops on the border, but I need your help, today, to win this battle.

We don't need to create a new army to patrol our borders -- we already have one. And it is time we put them on our own borders to defend our own nation instead of Korea, Bosnia, Haiti or wherever else we keep sending them.

Let's bring our boys home and put them on our own border where they can stop drugs, disease, illegal aliens and terrorists from entering our country.

Our borders are as open today as they were the day before 9/11. It is outrageous that both political parties appear to be willing to put politics ahead of the best interests of their constituents.

Please send email an letter to your Representative today. To send your email right now, click here http://capwiz.com/usbc/mail/oneclick_compose/?alertid=7525396 or go to our website http://www.usbc.org and click on Email Congress

Thank you!

Thanks again for your help on this critically important lobbying effort.

Best regards,
Edward I Nelson, Chairman

“They volunteer to go "protect" a border. Some are armed. I'm thinking these people have some pretty strong convictions.

I'm thinking that's a dangerous combination.

But, if you feel otherwise then lets put some money down on my wager? ;)

BTW - aren't some smugglers armed? Isn't there more than illegals coming through?

Might turn into a scene right out of The Wild West, accept maybe with automatic gunfire, eh?

Much better. Recovery is progressing. Passed out on Friday - what joy! but no reoccurance.

Nice zipper job on the patella. They come out Friday.

Range of motion, etc, is better than average, probably because it's been a chronic condition whereas most people get the surgery right after an incident.

Thanks for asking.

More on this ...

Minuteman organizer James T. Gilchrist, whose 850 volunteers shut down the flow of illegal aliens along a 23-mile section of Arizona-Mexico border last month, has joined forces with another citizens group to help organize a new border vigil in California -- beginning in August.

Memo from 1980 BC:

Our great nation of Egypts suffering from an influx of illegal immigrants. Other nations have failed to provide adequate food stores and sneak into our Borders, abetted and tolerated by our Government. A large group has just claimed land on choice fields in Goshen. They must be deported at once and we must make our borders secure.

Guide for the Mexican Immigrant
Sweet, this site has the new guide published by the Mexican governement in English.

Guide for the Mexican Immigrant

BM, I think you got caught in a catch 22. Nobody expected the mexicans to have the foresight to watch the news and catch the publicity hype surrounding the minutemen. With a 98% reduction of border crossings in the patrolled area during their little stint, it seems obvious that people simply chose to cross elsewhere. Thus, it became almost impossible for there to be a confrontation to begin with.

The minutemen also claim to be responsible for a whopping 349 apprehensions, from the april total of 11,482. Wow, way to make a dent. The U.S. border patrol states they were already beefing up patrols and security in the area and that law enforcement on the mexican side of the border are responsible for the drop from last years 27,594; not the minutemen. The minutemen appeared to be more of a nuisance to valid law enforcement officials than an aid as they tripped motion sensors near the border on more than 200 occassions, causing false alarms.

I think the greatest thing that the Minutemen have done is bring attention to the problem. The fact that they have been able to operate without a bloody confrontation is even better. Great job Minutemen, may your numbers grow and grow. A long history of legal immigration helped make this country great. We should take the best and send back the rest.

... to counteract the effects of Bush's bumbling.

President Bush's proposal for a guest worker program to help stem the tide of illegal immigration actually prompted a surge of illegal border-crossings that the administration then sought to cover up, a watchdog group charged today, citing a 2004 survey by the U.S. Border Patrol.

Judicial Watch, a Washington-based public interest group, said the survey, obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request, showed that 61 percent of a sample of detainees who had been caught illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexican border in the wake of Bush's proposal said they had been informed by the Mexican government or the media that the Bush administration was offering amnesty to illegal immigrants. Nearly 45 percent said the purported amnesty influenced their decision to enter the United States illegally, Judicial Watch said.

"The results indicated that President Bush's proposal had actually lured greater numbers of illegal immigrants to violate the law," the group said in a 16-page report on the Border Patrol survey. It said the Bush administration aborted the survey on Jan. 27, 2004, within a few weeks after it began, because it was producing "politically inconvenient and/or potentially embarrassing data." The U.S. government never issued a report based on the survey.

"The White House directed Homeland Security public affairs officers to deliberately withhold information from the public and the media about the Border Patrol survey and a related spike in illegal immigration," Judicial Watch said, citing documents it obtained under the FOIA.

Yea, it really sucks that he doesn't run his presidency by taking polls and changing every time the polls change, like Clinton did. Suppose that means he really has core beliefs that don't change with the policical winds?

I didn't say that. In fact I am strongly opposed to ILLEGAL immigration. I'm just pointing out that some people don't feel the need to flip-flop every time the polls change. If you take a stand you actually believe in, you can do that.

The only stand that liberals really believe in, deep down, is that what ever it is, Bush is wrong. What a wonderful way to go through life.

Disagree with him, you bet, on nearly every thing. But not everything. NAFTA, for one. I'm not too sure anymore that we (Bill and me) were right. There are probably some (a few)other things I agreed with him about. It's kind hard to remember now cause I've tried to shut out my memory of those 8 years.

I did like the big tax decrease he promised before he was elected. Oh, never mind, that didn't happen did it?
