I've been through some windy rainstorms in it and never got my down bag wet. The tent does require some common sense to set up, so it's not a tent for everyone. last edited: 8/27/09 4:01:47 PM” 4:07:53 PM 8/27/09 “i bought both mine for under 200 used.” 4:12:40 PM 8/27/09 “Good deal.” 4:19:35 PM 8/27/09 “there is a nallo2 on sale on ebay right now for 220 lists 550.” 4:37:53 PM 8/27/09 “210. unless you're the leading bidder with a reserve of 210. are you the one that asked to have it set up and photo'd” 5:10:24 PM 8/27/09 “i couldn't stand it anymore!” 5:27:53 PM 8/27/09 “oops last edited: 8/27/09 5:12:50 PM” 5:29:17 PM 8/27/09 “gear ho's” 5:30:38 PM 8/27/09 “lol! nope it wasn't me. i would have bought your tent outright. i may bid on it. lol!” 6:30:36 AM 8/28/09 “Yogi..when I "upgrade" my hiking partner I am looking for someone "close" for my tent (LOL). My present considerations are for bags that will zip together purely for "body heat conservation" (LOL)” 6:52:09 AM 8/28/09 “now that i think of it, i don't recall ever spending the night in a tent with a woman. after a week on the trail i can hardly stand to be in a tent with myself. i can only imagine what a woman would have to put up with. she would have to be on the verge of hypothermia to want to conserve body heat that badly...” 3:37:30 PM 8/28/09 “It's nice for weekend trips, Yogi. ;-)” 3:40:13 PM 8/28/09 “Found a Rainbow on Ebay, the guy (?) is asking $199.00, new they are $225. And wants $10 shipping on top of that. Declined $125.00 offer still 4 1/2 days left. last edited: 8/28/09 6:08:08 PM” 6:22:48 PM 8/28/09 “it has been seam sealed too... save you the work assuming the person did a good job.” 6:33:33 PM 8/28/09 “...oh i'll offer him 130, then you offer him 140 then i'll offer 135. set the price point low and go as high as 145...” 6:35:02 PM 8/28/09 “You'd do that for me? Thank you so very much. Let me know.” 6:37:39 PM 8/28/09 “done @ 130” 6:49:12 PM 8/28/09 “$140 denied. And I got this message: You have reached the maximum number of offers allowed on this item therefore you cannot make another offer. last edited: 8/28/09 6:37:27 PM” 6:53:32 PM 8/28/09 “140 denied... instantly. i sent in a question... pointing out the henry shires's warranty is only good for 90 days from the date of purchase. i also asked if it was seam sealed with silicone or something else because henry shires only warranties for silicone... no warranty = less value.” 6:56:00 PM 8/28/09 “i would rather buy one new from henry than from this person at 200 + 10 shipping. then you get the 90 day try it and return if you don't like it warranty from henry.” 6:57:28 PM 8/28/09 “You are the man! Maybe after 2 or so more days goes by might be a little more desperate.” 6:58:24 PM 8/28/09 “oh and the username in ebay maps to a user at backpackinglight.snob...” 6:59:15 PM 8/28/09 “Oh. Rot roh!” 7:02:23 PM 8/28/09 “The best way to turn two perfectly good 20 degree bags into one crappy 40 degree bag is to zip them together.” 6:53:33 AM 8/29/09 ““$140 denied. And I got this message: You have reached the maximum number of offers allowed on this item therefore you cannot make another offer. last edited: 8/28/09 6:37:27 PM” Tango 6:53:32 PM What the heck!?!? That's crazy!” 7:59:50 AM 8/29/09 “I am not an Ebay expert but it is not an auction. It is a buy now or "best offer" deal. So they figure I have 3 chances to give the seller my best offer. Bid $140 for me Stovie, I'm good for it.” 8:18:06 AM 8/29/09 “LOL Watch this and learn all you need to know about eBay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYokLWfqbaU last edited: 8/29/09 8:57:33 AM” 9:12:22 AM 8/29/09 Lightweight hybred tarps “Yeah baby, got the MLD Cuben Patrol shelter just the other day. Seam sealing the ridge-line seam now. Weighs approx. 6.5 oz add guy-lines, stakes, 2 stuff-sacks and GG Polycro groundsheet = 14oz” 10:54:00 AM 8/29/09 “Savage! J/K lol” 11:58:07 AM 8/29/09 “I have heard mixed reviews of the cuben material. I was looking at the Refuge x made of the same material but Six Moons wouldn't warranty the fabric so I said no.” 4:43:39 PM 8/29/09 “the material they make the inner tent wall of the hilleberg tents is amazing. it's a mesh but it's waterproof... i kid you not. you can make a pocket of the mesh and fill it with water and it will make a water ball... but when you touch it the water all comes pouring out. it has something to do with surface tension. these modern fabrics are amazing!” 6:55:24 PM 8/29/09 “Crazy! Amazing stuff. Gotta love a gear thread!!!! last edited: 8/29/09 7:09:24 PM” 7:12:43 PM 8/29/09 “He turned down $145, but there are still almost 3 days left.” 12:08:38 PM 8/30/09 “He dropped his buy it now price to $187.99. On that Rainbow Tarptent on ebay.” 4:20:38 PM 8/31/09 “lol! apparently the term "used tent" doesn't mean anything to him.” 5:00:59 PM 8/31/09 “i bid on that tent baume, and my high bid (auctionsniper) was higher but i think i got outsniped! sorry.” 5:04:39 PM 8/31/09 “He's selling it as NEW!!! I had a few friends put in offers all around 135, 140. The sale ends 1 day 14 hours, I hope he'll take $160 when there is only a short time left. Good luck to me!” 5:05:23 PM 8/31/09 “when i said oops, i wasn't talking about that tent. i was looking at getting another akto.” 5:14:15 PM 8/31/09 “Darn it! The Rainbow sold for $176.00. Oh well hope another one comes up. Thanks for your help Yogi. I really appreciate it.” 5:45:22 PM 8/31/09 “$188 after shipping is no deal on that tent, tango. i would prefer to pay the extra money and know i could get a refund if the tent doesn't work out. they aren't for everyone... henry has a good policy about this.” 5:50:27 PM 8/31/09 “Tango, that tent is $225 NEW from Henry. You certainly didn't miss out on a 'deal' from that eBay guy.” 5:59:28 PM 8/31/09 “I sold my 2009 unused seam sealed Double Rainbow for $205.00 shipped. I wouldn't buy anything 2nd hand unless it was at least $50.00 less than new,and even less if its been used a lot and depending on how old it is as well. Here's a 08 Contrail http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/forums/thread_display.html?forum_thread_id=23716” 6:04:22 PM 8/31/09 “Yes, that's what I thought, Yogi and S. I only would have paid $160, no more. Thanks ncthiker.” 6:24:13 PM 8/31/09 “I got a new HS Rainbow this summer--it performed brilliantly in much wind and heavy downpour in Honduras this last June, but not so great in the Sierras. I put it up right as a storm was hitting, I was on hard sand/gravel on granite and tied it down with rocks--it handled the wind just fine, but the 1/2 inch hail for half an hour caused a bit of mist to splash up through the netting. I covered my bag and clothes up with my rain coat, but if I'd been sleeping and hadn't noticed the mist my bag could have gotten wet. Should I have just gotten out and tied it down all the way to the ground instead of up a couple inches? Or is that just unusual due to the large hail for so long causing extra splashing? Made me feel a bit insecure about sleeping during a hailstorm!” 6:26:04 PM 8/31/09 “i think it's safe to give it a pass on the 1/2" hail test...” 7:21:58 PM 8/31/09 “Sunny, love (most of) that review. And I agree with Yogi. I owned the first generation Squall and when up in Yosemite in July I had 3-4 inches of snow fall through the night. I had to kick the snow off the tarptent a couple of times cause the weight made it sag. It performed really great I think for a 3 season. I just put it down to a rare weather phenom and not judge the whole tent on something like that.” 7:40:49 PM 8/31/09 “NO ultralight tent is going to be bombproof. Every tent design is a compromise.” 7:48:42 PM 8/31/09 “Just recieved this from Snafu.....anybody know anything about there products or used any of there tents? http://eastonmountainproducts.com/tent/kilo-tent” 1:06:37 PM 1/02/11 “First I have heard of them. I am curious to cost.” 2:16:38 PM 1/02/11 “yea I am too sunni ...by the way..I like your trail name..” 2:24:35 PM 1/02/11
