And if the source is a government that sheltered bin Laden, supported Hamas through the 90's and was responsible for the genocide in Darfur, more the better.

I have a couple of questions:

1) Should we really capture Osama? My take on the situation is that he is sitting in Pakistan. And we haven't moved on him because we don't want an islamic fundamentalist nuclear state that might happen if Pakistan turned him over to us or we surreptitiously invaded. So, we monitor his every move and learn more about his people. And, every three months, Pakistan turns over a "high ranking official."

2) What kind of long-term legitimacy does the peace movement have? In my gut, I do believe that we have failed in Iraq. It doesn't seem that things will turn out well there. But what kind of long-term foreign policy can we have if we leave?

Nine years on the protest line at Alliant Techsystems

EDINA, Minn. - It's a Wednesday at 7 a.m., and like clockwork, 45 activists spill out of their cars, gather on the asphalt triangle in the middle of the forked Edina road, hoist their signs and start to sing.

...

Dubbed AlliantAction, the nuns, teachers, artists, silver-haired retirees and other pacifists come as if on a pilgrimage to accuse Alliant of making land mines and other arms that they claim harm civilians indiscriminately.

For Alliant, the protests pose a curious PR challenge, because the $3 billion defense company says it doesn't even make most of the things the protesters are concerned about. Alliant officials say the firm hasn't made a land mine fuze or a cluster bomb for at least a decade. And the company is working on alternative munitions that will sharply curtail or eliminate the threat of injuries among noncombatants, they say.

This kind of thing is why liberals have no political power, even with an unpopular president.

I think this is pretty much representative of the (lack of) intelligence of the anti-war crowd.

Speaking of that ... whatever happened to all those deaths you said the Minutemen would cause during that month this summer? You didn't think I'd forget did you?

PS - Glad you're feeling better! I hope your 100% cured.

Frmo most interviews I've seen one on one with protesters they normally have little knowledge of what they are protesting. All they want is to feel as if they are doing something and protesting is the easiest way. It's like a liberal national guard...one day (not even two) a month and ya get the warm fuzzies for serving.

It just takes two warriors to make a war, no matter how many millions of nobel conscientious objectors you may have.

Sarge, please read it again. It still says ALL to me. To paraphrase: Represents the whole crowd.
The-Naviguesser

Navi - representative does not me "represents everything". It means characteristic of, like, or typical of. It can mean "representative of all", but doesn't necessarily.

For example, we elect representatives to congress to make decisions. They "represent" everybody (due to the vote), but that doesn't mean they "represent" everybody's opinion.
Sarge

Since the definition could go either way, why don't you just ask Mutt which way he meant for that word to "represent", then you'll have your answer.

Well, take it however you want, The-Naviguesser. I rarely make statements in the absolute and I don't think I did above.

Seriously, I think there's merit to some of the more thought out anti-war arguments I've heard. But it seems to me most of the people on the street with protest signs are of the MarkO School of Cluelessness (e.g. "the war was started to make money!" and other tinfoil-hattery nonsense)

represent v. 1. To stand for; symbolize. 2. To depict; portray. 3. To describe (a person or thing) as having a specified quality. 4. To serve as the delegate, sopkesperson, or agent for. 5. To serve as an example of.

I think both Mutt and Sarge can see how I was lead astray by the english language. 8^)

A plant has a specified quality, does that mean the plant is the specified quality?

A parent serves as an example of a child. Does that mean the parent is the child?

The misguided protest is representative of the lack of intelligence of the anti-war crowd. Does this mean the misguided protest is the anti-war crowd?

No?
