Poll: U.S. May Be Ready for Female President
Wednesday, February 23, 2005

ALBANY, N.Y. — More than six in 10 voters say they believe the United States is ready for a female president, a poll found.

The poll, conducted by the Siena College Research Institute and sponsored by Hearst Newspapers, also found that 81 percent of people surveyed would vote for a woman for president and 53 percent think New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton should try for the job.

Other polls have identified the former first lady as the voters' favorite for the Democratic presidential nomination.

On the Republican side, 42 percent of voters said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice should run for the White House and 33 percent named North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole.

The pollsters found about 60 percent of voters said they expect a woman to be the Democrats' nominee for president in 2008. In contrast, they found 18 percent expected the Republican ticket to be headed by a woman.

New York GOP Chairman Stephen Minarik said the widespread belief that Clinton will run for the job has caused many voters to think a woman will head the Democrats' 2008 ticket.

About 67 percent of those polled said a female president would be better than a male on domestic issues, but only 24 percent said a woman president would do better on foreign policy issues.

The telephone poll of 1,125 registered voters was conducted Feb. 10-17 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The results were first reported Monday in the Times Union of Albany.

Got an alternative? I mean, an actual powerful women who could be Prez that would tickle your fancy?

I think if a female Prez attacked you in the Oval office, you might just get turned on by the whole ambiance thang.

Name a female Politician, people!

Rice has a weird face, IMHO, but I might easily overlook it if Madam prez attacked me.

LOL!

I bet BM would like Jennifer Granholm (Michigan's governor).

I think she's been a pretty good Gov. Can't say I think she's ready for the white house yet. And actually, she was born in Canada so she can't be President can she?

I'd like to ask a serious question.
Why do conservatives HATE Hillary so much?
I really don't know that much about her, so can anybody explain it to me using facts and civil language?

It really irks conservatives when female politicians act just like male politicians.

Next thing you know, them women will be asking for equal pay!

Do not hate the woman.

Really do not like the healthcare plan she was proposing in Bills first term.

I am an immigrant, I chose to leave a country with such a health care plan.
I also spent some time in the UK that has such a health care plan. When I did get sick I could not get treatment except as a private patient, so I paid twice, once through high taxes, and second directly for treatment. Doctors would just say they had a full caseload and could not see me. Different story if I could pay.

Stepmother lost sight in both eyes (Glaucoma I think) needed an operation to remove whatever was preventing vision. After waiting almost a year she was admitted.
They did ONE eye, and left the other althought it is the same operation, takes little time, does not require any sort of doner, she could not see out of the other eye anyway. I think the second eye got done 2 years later.

Take the type of government waste that occasionally makes the military get headlines with $600 hammers and toilet seats etc, and put all medical care on that basis.

Others may disagree, but I have lived with both systems, I do not like socialized medicine.

Other than that I think it unfair that she should get off for failing to pay taxes on capital gains, and Martha Stewart goes to jail for selling stock when advised to do so by her broker. But that is not Hillary, it is 1/2 of all NJ politicians going by the 73 who have been indicted in the last couple of weeks.

Saw a TV program about Bill opening his office in Harlem, what was interesting was that when the cameras made a tour inside the office I did not see a single black worker.

Guess I will throw my .02 in. I don't think the country is ready for a women President yet, maybe in the far away future but not now.

I don't particularly trust Hillary. She will say and do what it takes (of course all polticians do that) to get your vote.

Rice doesn't have the expereince and yes her being black will be held against her whether you want to believe that or not.

Actually I think that Bill in his second term was about as close to center as you can get in American politics.

Did great on the domestic side, but probably the black eye he got in Somalia (gift from the outgoing Bush Snr.) made him a little gun shy in doing enough in response to Kenya and Yemen. A more aggressive response than a couple of tommahawk missles in Afghanistan may have delayed Sept 11.

.. .. or it may not.
