Gracias, SS. I saved it to my fav's.

I've added dehydrated chicken, honey, dehydrated broccoli and misc other concoctions. Nice to see other recipes using good ol' Ramen.

Thanks, stomper of stoves.

If this guy has a hit counter on his website, he'll wonder what the heck prompted all these views.

We have discovered that there is ramen, and there is ramen. One is the ramen you get at Costco for $3 for 24 packs, about $.15 per pack. That is crap ramen. The other is ramen you get in the oriental foods section of Winco (in our town), which is a larger pack, costs about $1.50, and comes with a sauce packet with about 2 tablespoons of a dark thick (like peanut butter) sauce, and a dried veggie envelope. The sauce mixes with the water in the noodles and turns to a sauce about like soy sauce. Add to that whatever you like: diced green onions, precooked steak strips, precooked chicken dices, precooked bacon, dried peas or carrots, diced bell peppers.

Idaho Bob. I agree the stuff from Costco and Walmarts sucks rocks... :-)

Have you ever found "Curry Ramen Smoodles" (yes, Smoodles, not Noodles)... I found them in an Indian grocery store-- the spice is pretty hot!! (use less if you don't like lots of spice!) but it tastes very good if you do like it spicy... :-) I like to add "Just Veggies" into my ramen to give it some vegetables and a little texture.

And, if you haven't tried them, Instant Rice Vermicelli (also at Asian Grocery Stores) are even nicer than ramen-- they aren't "fried", and if you get the ones that are tiny strands of vermicelli, they "cook" up in boilin water even quicker than Ramen...

I found the most amazing concentrated chicken stock the other day... it's called "Better than Boullion" and comes in a glass jar. Probably not something that you could use on the trail, except on the 1st night because it comes in a glass jar and needs to be refrigerated....

However, if you're car camping, I think it would be a great addition to your "pantry"... it tastes more like real chicken and adds a lot of flavor without onions or MSG (although it does have "autolyzed yeast extract"... a little jar (about a cup or so) can make 38 servings... (it's made with real chicken and not just a bunch of MSG and salt...

When MRE's first hit the scene they had some great stuff in them to mix with Ramen noodles. First was the dehydrated beef patty, it came with a gravy packet.Break the patty up and add the gravy packet and it was really good. The pork patty came with dehydrated ketchup and together they also made a great trio.

I love how fast & east the noodles are...but I found a recipe I used at home on linguine..and thought it would be awesome to carry backpacking....

2 Tbs dark sesame oil
1 Tbs olive oil
2 Tbs garlic, minced
1 tsp hot red pepper flakes
6 Tbs soy sauce
3 Tbs rice wine vinegar
3 Tbs brown sugar
Heat sesame oil & olive oil in a skillet. Add garlic & red pepper for 10 seconds. Add soy sauce, vinegar, and brown sugar and heat for 30 seconds.

This is also a great sauce for stir fry!!!!
