Long Distance Dating Sucks! “Man, I just got dumped. The worst part is I'm in Fricking Baghdad! Oh well there isn't anything I can really do cause I won't be home for 7 more months. PS thats why I havent posted in here in a long fricking time. Well got to go.” 3:53:50 AM 3/02/05 “hugs....wow......I'm sorry..........” 4:19:03 AM 3/02/05 “13fist, sorry to hear about that. Sounds like the timing couldnt have been worse. I hope the next 7 months passes quickly.” 5:28:29 AM 3/02/05 “Same thing happened to me after a 4 year relationship when I was training in the dessert. "Dear John ..." Sorry dude. It sucks! Worked out though because I ended up marrying a great woman.” 7:32:55 AM 3/02/05 “who are you?? don't worry... it'll get better. I think I am about to get dumped. Life goes on.” 8:17:48 AM 3/02/05 “Getting dumped is not only survivable, but you end up feeling like it was a good thing. Better that it's over than to go on in a problem relationship.” 8:24:14 AM 3/02/05 “Sucks, I get dumped all the time, life goes on...” 8:25:13 AM 3/02/05 “getting dumped is just part of life - please go to the dating sucks thread” 8:32:12 AM 3/02/05 “Decided I better shut up. ;-) last edited: 3/02/05 1:25:54 PM” 1:16:24 PM 3/02/05 “Maybe it was the bed-jumping. Sorry, if that sounds too much like "bed-hopping".” 1:18:30 PM 3/02/05 “Bison, you get dumped all the time? Gem - is there something I dont know about?” 1:32:03 PM 3/02/05 “Life is a lot of random threads. It may feel like sh1t now but you do have the answer to "for better or for worse". Better and cheaper both financially and emotionally now than later. Hoping you 2 do not have children already. Now do some math. The US has a population of 330,000,000. 1/2 are women (actually a little over 1/2). Odds are strongly in your favor that at least one of the 15 to 20 million in your age group is going to be just perfect. Hang in there” 1:34:01 PM 3/02/05 “Gem, I hope not.” 1:34:35 PM 3/02/05 “In the distant past honey... I should have said "got" last edited: 3/02/05 1:35:51 PM” 1:35:23 PM 3/02/05 “I'm sorry... I would almost rather get dumped than have to do the dumping, though, which is the situation I may be in here soon enough...” 1:41:19 PM 3/02/05 “Sorry to hear that, 13Fist. Pretty #&%!$ty thing to do while you are deployed IMHO. Stay safe over there!” 1:41:24 PM 3/02/05 “Sorry to hear that Fist. The first letter I got while in Basic was a "Dear John" from my girlfriend. You're better off without her. Keep up the goodwork over there.... lemme guess, you're a 13 series on a FST-V? Forward observer maybe?” 1:56:13 PM 3/02/05 “It stings huh - better off without her and finding someone who does wanna be with you. Her loss buddy.” 2:00:49 PM 3/02/05 “You are better off knowing her true nature. Better now than after you married her!” 2:01:17 PM 3/02/05 “heehee...embear!! trouble for a couple of years in my house. nothing to do with the bed jumping, more with my hiking in general. hey...and this is not about me...it's about what's his name?? 13FIST.” 2:28:33 PM 3/02/05 “What unit are you a FO for? There are lots of prior service guys here.” 2:33:51 PM 3/02/05 Timing is everything “I was dating a woman, we broke up, then we got together again before Christmas. A woman in my office asked me if I was crazy. "Now you have to buy Christmas gifts," she said. "You should have waited till after Christmas!" On Jan. 15 I got the Dear John letter. "See?" the woman at work told me. "You wasted all that money on Christmas gifts and she still broke up with you!" Let that be a lesson!” 2:40:23 PM 3/02/05 “Goebeet, I'm confused.” 3:14:12 PM 3/02/05 “13Fist...it's tough. Especially half a world away...no easy way, if any, for "closure". Hang tough, okay? The guy on your left, the guy on your right is what matters. Come home safe and marry a beauty queen and have 13 kids :)” 5:15:15 PM 3/02/05 “I once had a really serious relationship for a few years. Everytime I wanted to go hiking I had hell to pay. I hardly ever got to go hiking. Then I got dumped. Now I go hiking all the time. Life is good! :) last edited: 3/02/05 6:23:25 PM” 6:22:25 PM 3/02/05 “when I was on deployment they did a survey. I have been on three and on all of them from six months before, during the deployment, and six months after, 70% of marriages in the unit either ended or seperated. This was MP's that only left for six months at a time. It is tough but it is expected part of a deployment.” 7:03:07 PM 3/02/05 “We all get dumped. Plenty of hot chicks on TT to ease the pain. Good luck and thanks for your service.” 9:05:26 PM 3/02/05 “I'm an FO with the 1-120th FA 32nd Infantry WIARNG. I volunteered to go to Iraq with the 256BCT out of LA. I was attatched to 1st Cav until they left and now 3rd ID is taking over. Right in Baghdad. Its an experience that I'll never forget or that I'll never want to go through again. When all is said and done though, I'm glad I did it. Thanks for the support guys, Sgt. Shawn Monroe” 8:26:19 PM 3/05/05 “ROCK ON FO!!” 8:44:16 PM 3/05/05 “I had a buddy in the Navy who gave his wife complete power of attorney when we left on a float. when we came back 9 months later, she had emptied the bank accounts, sold the house and moved into some other guys house, he said he was also divorced, but I can't imagine that power of attorney goes that far.” 8:50:34 PM 3/05/05 “You military guys have your own language. I have no idea what 13Fist said in much of his post. But thanks for doing what you're doing. This seems like a good thread to tell a story that happened two years ago. I was lucky enough to get some courtside seats to a Bulls game. So I took my then 8 year old son. We were near the bench and the locker room entrance so he had an opportunity to get players' autographs. The opening flag ceremony was performed by six Marines. After the ceremony, the six guys were seated directly in front of us, which made Tucker so excited. After they had sat down he whispered to me, "Can I ask them for their autographs?" He was in such awe of them. I told him, "Of course." So he tapped the shoulder of the guy on the end and asked him. You could tell the Marine was just tickled. He signed Tuck's paper and passed it down the line. To this day, Tucker has saved those six autographs but he promptly lost all the players' autographs as they just weren't important to him.” 8:52:00 PM 3/05/05 “Sorry to hear about this Fist. Thanks for your service. I hope you get on the trail in the USA some time soon. My cousin was a POW. He came home to find out his wife had been with another guy for a couple years. She hadn't been waiting for him at all. He was doing great last time I saw him. Can't imagine what it felt like to come home to that news though.” 12:16:56 AM 3/06/05 “That's a great story Ruby.” 8:32:28 PM 3/06/05 “Ruby, That is really cool, you've got a lot to be proud of in your son. 13fist, thanks for doing what you are.” 5:34:00 AM 3/07/05 “I don't have a close brother or friend that is serving currently in the Armed Forces. Perhaps you might enlighten us to the actual status of this deployment. I did a hitch or two in Southeast Asia. I ran a long range reconnaissance patrol that was all over the map if you catch my drift and things were not right then so I feel things are not right now. Iam told by those returning home to our area VA Hospitals that life is one big gurellia war over there. It goes without being said that thanks are in order here but more important in my eyes is the fact that you FO's are a grunts best friend. I had burst transmissions to communicate with and Arc Strikes were my calling card. Hope you have BIG GUNS as well. Take Care of yourself and your fellow soldiers around you. May God Bless You and Keep You Safe. Come Home and Let's go backpacking . Stay in touch. Will send Care Package ASAP... anything special you might need?” 10:03:35 AM 3/07/05 “We have 155MM's and 105mm's. Also any air asset you could think of. AC-130's F-15's, 16's, 18's, AH-64's. The only problem is, it is a gurella war and its hard to find targets. We end up shooting a lot of Illum and area denial missions. We've lost all of our men to IED's (Road side bombes), not to small arms. As for the big up armored hummers...#&%!$ I'd like to put any politician in one and tell them there might be up to 500 pounds of explosives burried in the road and see how safe they feel. Don't get me wrong they have saved lives, but if we spent that money on better training and more soldiers we would be a lot better off. Send us some arabic speaking Americans.” 10:49:12 AM 3/07/05 “You hit the nail on the head- arabic speaking cruits... hard to come by but with the Muslim Religion becoming the fastest growing religion in this nation, not to mention across the world it seems to me that those that come from there and are educated here would be more than willing to join up and go back to lend a hand...even if it's only to provide proper communication. Your mailing address: is it the one at the beginning of this post? I live close to the Screamimg Eagles and another round of deployment is instore for the 101st.” 12:17:56 PM 3/07/05 “13FIST, what kind of music do you like and do you have a cd walkman?” 2:14:24 PM 3/07/05 “Sunshine, I listen to just about anything, but rap. I'm on my 4th cd walkman now. I keep breaking them, but the PX usually has more. Its an endless cycle.” 1:27:32 AM 3/08/05
