I would rather be sitting next to a screaming baby than some butt that brings a cat onboard.
The first thing the damn cat does in a carrier is throw up and crap in it.
Think of the other passengers.

I've never seen one in carryon. I can't imagine they'd let you do that.

I'd be pissed if someone showed up with a cat htough. I'm allergic to cats. I can just see smelling dog crap for a 4 hr flight. Good times.

I dunno. I've smelled plenty of awful things from humans on flights as well. Flying is just a rather unfortunate method of travel: contained in a beer can, hurling through the air at 600 mph at 30,000 feet and you can't get off. Sometimes even the air vent is enough to get rid of the stench. I got stuck next to blabbermouth on a recent flight how had some of the worst breath, I mean, curl your nose hairs. I finally offered him a stick of gum and he shut up.

Did you hide the dog in your purse?

$275 for checked baggage versus $150 for carryon. They're sure encouraging you to try and carry it on. I think I'd probably show up ready to pay the $275 but would try for the carry on method. It said they limit the # of pets per flight and it's first come first serve. That's a long, long flight though. I might spring for the $275.

That's much what this says, dayhiker.

Still, just because you CAN fly with your pet doesn't mean you should.
Rent a car and drive.

I agree. Wonder what the one way car rental would run. I bet Amtrak would be big time expensive. NOLA is a hub of sorts I believe, but still.

amtrak was under $300. Usually when I check it, it's 3x airfare.

I see people with pets all the time in airports. Mostly small dogs in the little carriers.

Small pets or babies - both are a total toss up as to how the trip will go.

Last month on a flight from Denver to Chicago i sat next to a lady holding a 10 month old in her lap - the kid was happy as a clam the whole trip. When she sat down I groaned inwardly, but the kid couldn't have been quieter - i was amazed.

The flight out to Jackson, Wy. had 5 dogs on it. More than is usually allowed, but it's at the pilot's discretion. Only one of the dogs had issues, and that was because his tranquilizer wore off. It took a while for the next dose to be administered and take effect.

Either way, test the cat at least a week before the trip for tranquilizer tolerance. Two of mine can take it, one becomes more excited. There are other drug options if the cat has a questionable reaction to the drugs.

LOL you ppl krak me up.

Dutchess, it ain't difficult to do. 3 years ago we moved from Venice to Phx, with an 11 hour flight to Atlanta, our bags didn't make it fast enough to our terminal so we layed over in the airport and got the next morning's leg on over to Phx.
We had 3 little kids, 2 cats, and one dog (toy poodle, yes I am severely ashamed to announce that we had a toy poodle, Agnes).

Anyway, most airlines allow 2 animals, caged of course, with passengers, up to 2 per flight. Your daughter can easily fly with her cat in the cabin with her, under her seat.
The cost then was like 90 bux, one way, she'll have to have a completely updated vaccine record.
One thing your daughter will need to keep in mind is that she'll require a "health certificate to fly" of sorts NO MORE than 15 days before flying. She has to get a vet's OK to fly within a 2-week window of her scheduled flight, or the airlines don't let it fly.

Another suggestion: get one of those real little, squatty kind-of pet-totes so her cat basically HAS to lay down the whole time, on a towel is how we did ours. If your daughter is sitting next to a hay fever or jerk, the airlines asks ppl to switch around some to accommodate everyone.

Really it's quite easy. Security is gag tho!!!!! We had 3 kids and 3 pets ..... all the shoes had to come off, and all the damn pets had to come out of all the carriers to go thru that scanner thingy. Naturally every single pet-Taxi got stuck in that side scanner too. Man were we a hoot to see I'm sure!

Wow $150 huh Dayhiker? They've jumped some since 3 years ago. One thing with the checked baggage travel for pets tho, temp hi's and lows will nix any animal travel that way. We had taken the 2 animal limit in the cabin, so one of our cats went cargo (which was good, she was our yeller). They said if Atlanta hit 80 degrees they'd have to send her on the next flight, which would have been the night one. But Atlanta was very overcast and rainy then, so it didn't hit 80, and we were good to go not sans pets.

I'm heading to San Diego in Nov/Dec to return my son's chocolate lab, Layla. There's never been any question that I will drive.

Carry on pets...make sure you give em a "doggie/kitty downer" and they will be fine (vet can prescribe.

There are two compartments under the aircraft one is climate controlled (for pets) the other is not.

Had a buddy in the ATF who is a dog handler. His dog gets his own seat and sits next to him....

LOL We've flown twice with our daughter - at Christmas when she was 3 months and in March at 6 months. I was nervous because I didn't want to be "those people". Both times, everyone around us just gave us that look of "oh noooooo". We're lucky - she's not a fussy kid at all and spent all of her time playing, eating and sleeping. Visible relief shown on everyone's faces. :D

Regarding cats: I've seen lots of cats in carryons under seats. Most times, I didn't realize they were there until the end of the flight. I think most vets will prescribe a sedative if you ask.

I would suggest you try the drug before your flight. Animal drugs are not cost-effective whatsoever in Italy. Se we gave ours a little kid's liquid Benedril. Our Italian cat started harking and had this severe thick mucous liquid draining out of her mouth due the medicine. I thought she might actually die right there. I also asked my wife if we still had to pay for her flight if she died and we didn't even take her along .... for some reason she failed to see any humor. Eventually killed kitty stopped her convulsing hacking and snotting her gelatinous goo, and all was fine. Plenty of Italians in Marco Polo Int'l Airport directed serious concerns for our traveling circus. Occasionally we thought we heard her yelling her head off below our feet, but we knew she might pose flying problems, so she was exactly where she needed to be.

LOL lilmg, I cannot even count all the times we've gotten that look of dread!!!

Where the heck did I see the people who had a fake cat paw in a carry on case. Anyway the person is sitting there and places the bag under the seat and you see this paw occasionally come out and make a sweep.

I brought half a pizza on a plane yesterday. No one said a thing. I was in New Haven, CT and brought back a Frank Pepe's pie to enjoy.

Last year I brought a nearly full water bottle thru airport security and barely made it with the skin of my teeth. 2 security ppl were debating and nearly dumped it out in the trash at the scanners, when another gal said that with my 3 kids that I was allowed to have some drink for them. I obliged with a big ole grin and said that made perfect sense, kids sure do get thirsty quickly ......

...... and by that evening our NYC Yankee neighbors in Phx had their first taste of real moonshine!

That's hilarious.

A contractor buddy needed me to review something for him and write a letter with my engineers seal. I wrote the letter and was reimbursed with 1L of moonshine.

What's funny is when we sat in the plane one'a my girls asked for the water and I was like uhhh we'll get you some just after we take off dear, you don't want this, it's old.

My wife looked at my grin and said "That ain't water is it?" Out came a huff and rolling eyes, hehehe.

I was at a get together one time where the 'shine made an appearance. It was getting time to go. I got the shot glass, filled it with water, found my wife and said, "One for the road," and threw the shot back. She was not amused. I'm not sure I ever convinced her it was water. She drove home.
