I want to go back!
We had talked about this amongst ourselves last summer. Well, the idea is still etched in my mind. Check out my notes on the trip page, if you are interested. Let me know what you folks think and we can develop this along the way...

I probably will not make it, but I have some great trail maps and a guide book if you guys are interested in making it into a backpacking excursion.

Let me know.

Thanks, Knee!

And, whatsamatter? A little childbirth and your life is over?

Well, yeah. That may actually be true. For the last umpteen years, my life has belonged to two kids and a handful of creditors!

I'll keep an eye on this and if nothing is planned that weekend, I'd love to go check that place out with you guys. Will this be a (god forbid jk) car camping trip?

It depends on a few things, ENS:

1) the consensus here

2) don't write off car camping as a good alternative in this situation. There are more beautiful waterfalls and gorges in one concentrated area in the Finger Lakes region than your imagination can muster up! Seriously! So, the idea of setting up base camp like that can be more of an asset than you think. You just have to get beyond the stigma in your mind and be practical.

3) which brings me to the other point. When I set up the first trip, I wanted a BPing excursion. After talking to the rangers up there, they convinced me that (for my purposes at the time) the only prctical way was to set up in one of the parks.

So, let's keep an open mind. And, try to make this one. You won't regret it. I assure you...

sounds cool. I like car camping. I think there is a fingerlakes trail up there. Not sure where that comes and goes though and if it hits the good spots in the above-mentioned parks. I agree with you about the base camping aspect when doing this type of trip. Keep me posted to what dates you are looking at. Looks like sometime in May?

At least three days. There's never enough time in Ithaca!!!

Good deal, ENS. I'd like to see you go with us. There is a trail that Lumberzac and I were talking about a while back for BPing. I want to explore that a little more.

WK, can you get me that info you mentioned before. I would like to look it over...

Treebeard....too bad you be a going in May...I'm usually up there every Summer somewhere in late July...my father-in-law races his Porsche at the Glen...

Lots of wineries to visit along Seneca Lake...I had thought of doing a hike that would take ya from winery to winery...do some tasting and then move on to the next one....when ya had too much....pass out and then do it again the next day!

Great idea, strat! We were up there last year from the 15 to 18 of July. I would do that again, but we have the cook off in W Va this year amidst July. Think you may want to join us anyway?

Tree....i'll keep an eyeball on this trip and let ya know...I need to touch base with my father-in-law in regards to this year's race schedule...

The Wine Tour Hike has been an I-dear that's been tossed around a bit and then shoved under the pillow.....i've had grandeur I-dears about a Napa Valley Hike Tour....

I live in Utah, but I am nuts about the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY. I've never actually camped there, although I do have a very good friend who lives in Naples and I've visited her a few times. She took me to Watkins Glen on one of my trips with her, and I absolutely fell in love with the place. You guys have a great time. I'm envious.

Too bad distance makes some trips unfeasible, Hobbit! I love that region, also. If it's not my favorite, it's close...
