where do you live? Was it in a can or bottle?

Guinness draft (from the nipple) in America is brewed at St James Gate, Dublin Ireland.

Guinness is good beer - regardless of where its brewed.

btw - the Canucks make some of the best dark beer I've ever had - helinka brought a whole trunkload of it to Ithaca last July, bless her heart.

Sorry Roamy I feel the bottle version in the USA...and tap too, is nothing compared to the flavor & smoothness of it when you get it in Europe. I find what we yanks get over here to have a bitter aftertaste...must be the water. Of course most of us ruin beer by serving it ice cold anyway and Guin is best when served at about 45" IMHO.

At the pub on the crossroads there's whiskey and beer
There's brandy from cognac that's fragrant but dear
But for killing the thirst and for raising the gout
There's nothing at all beats a pint of good stout
Drink it up men, it's long after ten

At the pub on the crossroads I first went astray
There I drank enough drink for to fill Galway Bay
Going up to the mourning I wore out me shoes
Going up to the cross for the best of good booze
Drink it up men, it's long after ten

Some folk o'er the water think bitter is fine
And others they swear by the juice of the wine
But there's nothing that's squeezed from the grape or the hop
Like the black liquidation with the froth on the top
Drink it up men, it's long after ten

I've travelled in England, I've travelled in France
At the sound of good music I'll sing or I'll dance
So hear me then mister and pour me one more
If I cannot drink it up then throw me out the door
Drink it up men, it's long after ten

It's Guinness's porter that has me this way
For it's sweeter than buttermilk and stronger than tea
But when in the morning I feel kind of rough
Me cursin' lord I be who brews the damned stuff
Drink it up men, it's long after ten
Drink it up men, it's long after ten

Trip Report: Guinness Storehouse!
My first Guinness in Ireland was at a place called "The Holy Ground Pub" in Limerick. The only pub in all the world which is located in a graveyard. The owner even built his tomb inside the pub. After completing the tomb, he moved his office inside. Sadly, the pub was recently converted into a carry out store. A victim of the smoking ban.
July 3, 2003...
I drove out of the Wicklow Mountains, south of Dublin, with some idea that the St James Gate Brewery would be near the center of Dublin. After getting stuck in heavy traffic, I began driving on side roads. Twisting and turning to where I thought city center might be. About to give up and ask directions at the next pub, I noticed a dingy brown stone church next to a bunch of silos. Quite an odd place for a church. Thought I was lost until I read the writing on the Silos. Guinness! My uncany sense of direction alowed me to find "Heaven" though a maze of side streets.
One afternoon in Dublin was well spent at the Storehouse. A quick tour of the museum and then off to the "Gravity Bar" for my free pint. Into a stomach whos last meal was an early morning "Full Irish" at a Wicklow B&B, poured 3.5 pints of Aurthur Guinness's creation. Then I got into my rental vehicle and wreaked havoc upon the Emerald Isle once again. Thick rush hour traffic made my excape from Dublin worse than the initial invassion. While merging into stop and go traffic, a hell of a noise came from the Bass delivery truck which stopped in front of me. Empty kegs rattle loudly with a slight tap on a large trucks bumper. All was well, no harm done. Next stop, a pub for some Guinness and grub!! Then on to Belfast, Northern Ireland and a tour of Sandy Row. (Sandy Row story is for campfire conversation only) Slante'

I love Guinness and always will. It is too bad they are outsourcing their brewing. I simply do not trust Canadians though.

I'll still have my Boddingtons though.

about the Sandy Row story...
Saying the wrong thing while hanging out with hardcore locals when nobody else knows where you are can be a tricky situation. Guinness saves the day! Posting that story in a public forum would not be wise.

about the Guinness Breweries...
There are several Guinness breweries around the world. Guinness is brewed in 4 African breweries... in South Africa, Nigeria, Benin and Ghana. The biggest market in Africa is Nigeria, which has the largest Guinness brewery in Africa. There is magic in that black water!

Only the bottles and cans are brewed abroad. The Draft is still brewed in Dublin. They have been brewing Guinness Draft in London (for the English and Scottish markets) for a few years, but will halt London operations sometime this summer, when all draft will once again be brewed at St James Gate.
