“The Tree guests last night were wonderful people. One couple's little girl with no front teeth wanted somebody to play air hockey with, so I obliged. I got off to a 6-1 lead, and the kid says, "Pretend you're winning," and walks away!

Do they teach women these things, or are they born that way?”

“What was for dinner?

“Well, now that you ask, yes, there was some of that, plus some great ziti and garlic bread, salad, liquors, scotch, beer bloody Mary's, and wine. I think that about covers all that I had.

Mapes did not drink, of course.”
