I think I will LOVE the Insul Mat Thermo-Max sleeping pad!

However, when I got it and ripped into it... LOL!... I can't remember how it was folded.

Is it folded first in half, and you go from there, doubling it over each time? Or do you "Z-fold" it back and forth right from the start? YES... I can see where the folds are. lol

I tried it in the Thermarest chair kit, too, and it works. Since it's a mummy shaped pad, the chair fit a little differently. And I wanted to walk like an Egyptian!!! ... go figure!

I don't use the stuff sack for it anymore.

Just fold it a couple times and slide it inside your pack.

If you feel you must put it in the stuff sack, it folds from the bottom, one creased section at a time. When you get to the top, fold it a couple times in the other direction so it is kind of like a squat cylinder. You should be able to get it in the stuff sack then.

I get all the air out, close the valve and fold it end to end twice. Then roll it from side to side. It takes a few times to figure out the best way to get the most air out but it becomes second nature after a while.

Yeah, that was interesting, too, trying to get all the air out. lol... still not sure I know where to start from and which way to work with the I-beams, but when I laid down and flailed on it, I seemed to get the last finale bit out. :-)

I just open the valve and roll the thing from the end to the top and then put my knees on the roll to get whatever is left in there. Then close the valve, unroll it and fold it. All the chambers are connected so ya don't get too much air trapped in it.

I don't have one but it seems you could roll it up just like a Therm-a-rest to get the air out.

LOL... well, come on now, I prefaced this all with a "DOH!" :-)

I know we've debated folding or rolling tents and various things on here. I'm new to the Insul Mat, so I reserve the right to ask stupid questions. Didn't know if because of its material, if it might be more susceptible to developing leaks at the folds, etc.

Aww hell, just looking for a consensus... And seeing how bad you all spell. ;-P

I thought I'd at least get a pfffffffffffht for my comment. I guess it would have helped if I hadn't left words out.

Rumor has it that there is somthing female genetics that prevents them from knowing how to fold a map. That's been my experience anyway.

With my thermarest I leave it unfolded for storage. I'd probably do the same with an air core mat and just fold it up for the trips.

wow...
it must be #&%!$in rocket science and all. I guess I'll stick to my thermarest...no fuss and you don't need an engineering degree to figure it out.

Luv ya lizs. :-)

;-P I'd advise trying it. You're one of the select few with just the right amount of hot air to really fill it up FAST!

Plus, I've got something you don't have! (that'll work faster than anything to get you out to get one) :-)

The packing is no harder than the T-Rest UL I have. The only real difference is the extra 2" of heavenly cushion and the $20 ya save over the TR UL. LOL!

Plus this summer when I go to Nordhouse Dunes I have a real floaty for swim time. :)

Can I do a doh on your thread. Try getting an MSR Dragonfly stove back in its sack.(all spelling correct by the way).

too GD funny!!!
who folds it up anyway...roll the dang thing up and strap it on like a strap on...well, sort of.

I almost got one, but thought Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I wanted something much more useless, like a 34.00 titanium coffee cup. Now,, I know how to waste money.

I just just don't get the anal retentive ounce counters. I mean, buy a cup and put it in your pack. If ya can't handle carrying a real cup stay on the couch.

LOL!
