Mt. Passaconaway, Anyone?

“It's short notice, but I'm planning on bagging Mt. Passaconaway this weekend if anyone wants to come along. There are only two mountains on the 48 list in the southern part of the Whites that I have left, and this will eliminate one of them (Mt. Tecumseh is the other one).

It should be a relatively easy trip. 2800' of elevation gain over 5.1 miles is cake, depending on the snow/weather conditions. Plan is to bag the peak, then overnight at Camp Rich (near the summit) and head out Sunday morning.”

“I don't know, can you?”

“Sure Cyndee - with yer deep snow worthy mountain motorcycle. Just be sure not to get caught.

Artex: I'm using all my free time working on the house, no hiking for me until it's done. Then I'll probably be desperate to hit the trail. On another note: it looks like we'll both finish our 48 this summer, with you taking about 1 year and me taking about 35 (bagged my first four as a wee lad). What say we finish together on Carrigain? Perhaps on the 9/11 memorial hike?”

“That'd be cool, pedxing, except I plan to finish in June and want to make Mt. Adams my last 48. However, let's definitely get together for some hikes once you get your house stuff done, and it'd be cool if you'd be there when I finish my list, and I'd be honored to accompany you when you finish yours.”

“Wow, June! You are zipping through them. Visiting Adams would be great. I love the Presi ridge, and have bypassed Adams all but once (and heck, maybe I'll find the bite valve I lost at the peak).”

“Excellent, sounds like a plan! :-)”

“this is a slight possibility. I wanted to get some visits in this weekend with my family, but this is very tempting.”

“We have our rugby club's annual captain's diner on Saturday. I've already paid and it's important that I go.

“I'm still planning on doing Adams on the 18th or 19th, depending on weather. You are more than welcome to come along. We plan to send the night at Gray Knob on the 18th.”

“Thanks Madriver, but I have class on the 18th. Also, I'm saving Adams for my last 48'er.

Earth, if you can make it, fantastic! But no worries if not. It's not like I gave everyone a heck of a lot of time to plan.”

“Yep, very possible. Your hike would be 10.2 miles if you bagged the peak and came back down.”

“I laughed when i saw your note re: 35 years to finish the 48.

I started at age 5. And, if I finish this year, I will be 40.”

“LOL Lee - maybe I should wait a few more years then, I want the title of TT's longest time to complete the 48. But then again, finishing the 48 at 48 has its charms, too.”

I think there is still a small shelter west of Passaconaway on Dicey Mill trail.

“Thanks Pepsi. BTW, I may just do this trip as a dayhike if it looks like it's going to snow bad enough, which might be the case.

As for the 26th/27th, I'm planning on bagging the Wildcats if I just do a long dayhike, but also Carter Dome if I do an overnighter. Interested?”

“Another major snowstorm is moving through later today and all day tomorrow, so there's little logical choice but to postpone this trip. A lot of you couldn't make it anyway, so it worked out perty gewd. Just as well too, I have a lot of studying I need to do.”

“Probably a good choice. It looks like I'm glad I couldn't make it. Not for the hiking part but, storms like that make the ride home amost twice as long.

Not sure yet about the 26th/27th but I'm thinking Owl's Head ? maybe and umm something else.
