Pennsylvania AT overnighter Anyone?

“Anyone up for a dayhike on the AT this Sunday? I am doing the section from PA 94 to Boiling Springs.”

“correction: the plan is the hike from PA Rt. 34 to Boiling Springs. It will be a 10.8 mile hike.”

“it's iffy at this point, but we'll see. it's a long drive with nightmare 78 traffic for a 11 mile dayhike. hmmmmmm”

“Sunday? I thought it was going to be saturday. I guess I might be able to.”

“you should come down Saturday night and go out on the town of York PA with Ox and me.

That area of the AT is about 45 minutes from York.

That would be awesome if you can make it.”

“Trip coming up on the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania on October 7th-8th.

It's a Friday nighter. It's the weekend where Crazypace will complete the entire Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania. It will be a trip of celebration and gorging on icecream (half gallon challenge).

We will be hiking the Pine Grove Forest Section of the trail. Highlights will include, Pine Grove Forest and Furnace, the Pole Steeple and the entire trail halfway point.

Friday night we're going to hike two miles into the shelter starting at Shippensburg Rd. and on Saturday we're going to hike 15 miles through Michaeux SF and Pine Grove Furnace State Park to PA Rt. 34.

I did the section from PA 34 north to Boiling Springs this past weekend and the fall colors are starting to come out and should be decent when this trip comes around.

We can also expect some potentially great hiking weather. Gone for now are the days of hiking in weather with heat indexes of 100 degrees ! WooHoo!

“I'm also doing the Cumberland Valley Stretch on Sunday, if anyone is interested. I plan on trail running it. It is 10 miles and flat.”

“anyone up for an easy 10 mile flat dayhike through Pennsylvania countryside on the AT this weekend? I plan on doing it as a semi trail run. The plan is to do from the Bernhisel Bridge (Scott Farm) to the Regional Office in Boiling Springs, PA.

Pennsy, I wish I had a bike, your bike and hike combo would be perfect for this section.”

Well, no, not really, I tried Lobster Ice Cream when in Maine (just for the novelty of it.) The Ice Cream part was good (so rich it almost tasted like butter), but I didn't care for the solidly frozen chunks of lobster (they were too hard!)”

“I cant this weekend - Octoberfest weekend. We're heading up to the PA Renisance (spelled wrong I'm sure) Fair.
The bike idea would work though, we passed people that were doing that when Michele and I did that section. You could also do an up and back - It would be 20 of the easiest hiking miles you ever done!!”

Sorry ENS, I can't do this weekend. It's the annual family weekend in a cabin in NE Pa.”

“that's cool Pennsy. That's alot more fun than this stretch of the AT nd so is the PA Rennaisance.

I may just do five mile up and back. I did that stretch before it was re-routed 15 years ago, so it is technically done. But I want to do the new re-route.”
