Plenty of room smokygirl, glad you can make it.

Right HOI, Hunt Fish Falls Trail is about 0.75 and then another 0.25 to 0.5 mile to the camsite.

Sorry it's been awhile since checking in. No worries tho, I'm a go! Spam and currahee, yeah, between y'all and Bear, I know I'm good. I'll get there in the evening of Sat, after my in-law's wedding, ghost sounds like you're the man with detailed info on t-head info and directions there, if you'll be so kind as to email your # I'll give you a hollar. Hey Spam, can you email me your # too, when I'm in-#&%!$ry(said with 3 syllables), I'll give you a buzz too.

As far as goodies, I'm gonna bring some Parmesan Reggiano cheese, this is the cadillac in parmy cheese, and several different bottles of vino from diffit regions for y'all ta sample. As far as Cuban cigars, how many should I tote in? Dang, I wish I had time to make another trip to Luxembourg, they gett'em cheap there, more costly here in Italy, but they here! Mebbe I'll thank of a few other thangs in the meantime. Anybody eaten horse, mebbe I can sneak in summa that stuff? If you've not eaten cute little horsies, you've WAY missed out!

Yo Bear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need to give you a hollar, sooooonnnnnnn......

Oh as for the boots, scratch the question, I cain't use them at the moment anyhow. Broke my big toe cupla weeks back, but no biggee.

I ate horse in Alexandria, Egypt. Didn't know it at the time. That brough out platters with huge slabs of meat and we picked our own. They grilled them right there in the middle of the room. When we left, we passed by the alley and saw them stripping meat off a dead horse outside the backdoor of the place we had just left.

It was good though

Doood, ta have you at the wedding of the inlaws would be killuuuhh! They something like serious backhills tho!hehehe (frikkin amazing that my wife hatched from them if ya asked me)

Ain't that funny, you cain't spell c,u,n,t, even if you hillbilly the word "country" ta make it sound hillbilly (see may last post, you'll know whut I'm tawkin' about).

Hyway, the first time we had it was in Croatia, mighty good. I get it regularly now that I know what "cavalo" is, in Italian. Goes well with a Prosecco Superiore, if any Italy wine geeks are out there (I'm totally geek'n out over the vino here).

don't try this at home, but FWIW here's a backcountry corn likker recipe:

8 quarts (1 peck) shelled corn (for malt)
25 lbs. cornmeal
25 lbs. sugar
1/3 lb. yeast

put shelled corn in cloth sack and pour warm water over it. Continue to keep it wet throughout the day. When corn sprouts reach about 2 inches, spread out the corn to dry (now you have corn malt). When dry, grind the malt and mix with the cornmeal and sugar and bring to a boil in 20 gallons water to make mash. Dump the yeast in a gallon of luke warm spring water to activate. Let the mash reach room temperature and dump in the yeast slurry (don't let the mash sit around too long at room temp before dumping the yeast or other nasties will take hold). Top up the mash with water, 9 gallons to make a total of 30. Fermentation will take 4-5 days. After that, distill. This'll yield about 3 gallons corn likker.

Warning: don't try this. If you don't get the distillation right you'll have all kinds of nasty fusel alcohols left that could harm or kill you.

Ghost,
I will be emailing you for directions. I am walking without crutches this week. I figured since the hike in was so short, if I take it slow and very cautious, I should be okay. Swimming should hurt me. I won't be hiking around much unless I feel my ankle is strong enough. I should be good to go! :D

Gojo, my dearest friend (I hope, hehe), iff'n that jug be filled wit corn likker, can you tote me in a quart jar? Since moving away, I've lost my mountain dew connection here in Asheville(whur I presently sit). I want to get a quart jar of it for my Italian neighbor, whom I've toted here to good ole NC! He makes his own wine and grappa (shewt, they dang nearly all do over there), and I want to russle up some Appalachain grappa for his buds back in Italy to sample .... I mean the REAL stuff. Here in Asheville you can legally buy it, called Georgia Moon says my Uncle, it ain't exactly the same, but it's as close as you can get without going to my good buddy gojo. Can you help me out, I gotta Cuban cigar, some sweet Parmy chz, and whatever else it takes for ya, this felluh is like my Pa over there in the Old C,u,n,try. Teehee, I wrote hillbilly country that time! PLZ lemme be thankin you later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm legit, ask Bear, he'll vouch I'm aiight!

An water and ice, kills my swellin' ever time!

okay.... let's see if I've got this right.... go to Linville and ask around til you find Hunt Fish Falls Trail.... then that is the trail head?? Then hike in a mile or so to party central. Is some sort of secure parking there?
I have the topo map of Lost Cove... but I'm not much of a topo navigator!!
Trekker John

here is another map of the area: Google Maps link

The way that I am going is probably different than some but anyways my directions are to get to the point south of Linville where 181 and 221 split (far left side of linked map) then locate Old Jonas Ridge Road - go up to the BRPW and cross (do not turn left or right at the parkway) - follow Old Jonas Ridge Road (dirt after crossing BRPW) and pick up Mortimer Road for a bit then turn right on what is labeled on the map as a USFS road then pick up Pineola road - the parking area for Hunt Fish Tr. is on the left before you start to drop off the ridge going into Pineola. It is fairly obvious as parking areas go but there is nothing particularly secure about it other than the fact it is along ways from the main roads - expand the map attached to see the road names I mentioned.

Yo Blue ridge parkway, Mile marker 305.5 country rd 1511. Follow that rd, aprox 5 miles, to a small town of two houses. Continue on the 1511 rd to find parking lot on right, prior to crossing a small bridge of the stream you will be hiking. Lost cove trail begins there.Look at the stream, trail runs to the right of this stream and I believe there is a brown and yellow sign. Follow the downstream trail blazed in white 1.3 mile we will be on the right of trail ,cant miss us.
THESE ARE DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS THAN HOI IS GIVING YOU!
I have a couple packs of red hots, buns, Mustard and catsup. With some soft drinks. Water is good there, IMHO!
