3 days in Lassen with the internet gang. ..

“Last weekend I got together with a group of online hikers for a trip to Lassen Park. A couple of us had meet before and a few had almost made other trips and the rest I knew from "online" posting.

Some folks are from the Yahoo site, Backpacker and perhaps one or two lurk here. There were 12 of us total with some heading in on Friday and the rest in on Saturday. I headed in Friday morning with a little snow falling....I headed up Sulphur Works cutoff and camped on the road behind Diamond Peak...Ron and Maria came up a couple hours after me and camped below me in the cutoff. The next day we headed in to the Bumpass Hell parking lot. The rest of the group caught up with us and we set up camp in the shelter of a few trees. After dinner the surprises began to come out of the packs...Baileys Cream, cookies and brownies, French bread and cheese and a delicious German New Years treat...a fine wine with a pyrotechnic show of Rum and sugar, truly delicious.

Sunday we headed out, with me and Drunken Marmot skiing down the road while the others avoided the avalanche hazards by taking the cutoff back down. I had a bit of an injury to my leg and couldn't ski well enough to negotiate the cutoff trail, Dave was kind enough to ski the road with me incase something slid.

Three fine days in the mountains...terrific weather, good food, star filled sky's and great people...life is good.

“Gee, make me feel bad. I was but a follower on this trip. The Yahoo site does have lots of trips though, check em out at NorthCA_Hiking

What route are you doing on Shasta?”

“As in your case, I am but a follower with a couple of people who have done it before. All I know so far is that we are doing the Helen Lake thing. We still have some planning to do.

Oh...and I was just kiddin' ya Steve. :o)”
