But I think that before artificial fibers, the seasoned backcountry hands wore wool during the winter, since it retains some of its insulation properties even when soaking wet.”

“well that's true, I guess my point is that virtually everyone has at home what they need for the backcountry. Waterproof coat, Wool sweaters, that sort of thing. YOu just need to make sure you can get dry again. Ok it's not ideal compared to the new stuff, but it'll be ok in most instances. A lot of it is common sense.”

Not at all. No one expects anyone to be perfect, but a lot of this could have been avoided if the hikers had sat down and did their homework. Going into the woods ill prepared doesn't just put yourself in danger; it also puts those that are rescuing you in danger.”

Let me by your guide to the ways of TT.

This is what I like to call the rebuttal, b|tchslap and conversion phase of a thread.

This is where a thread would have normally died and sank to oblivion at the bottom of the list but someone gets pissed and decides to chastise the posters. Lacking any real knowledge of the culture of a board or the personalities therein the chastiser lashes out blindly. Often mistaking humor for an attack the chastiser gets progressively bent and communication skills go out the window.

Meanwhile many of the posters who were merely poking fun at each other attempt to sooth the damaged ego of the chastiser and invite them to join our disfunctional gang. Typicly these threads tend to linger for another day or two as the chastiser pops in and out to post increasingly lamer and lamer pot shots.”
