TT Pets Maint/Injured/Sickly Thread

“I sure miss the little pest today! Having her teeth cleaned, nails trimmed, and annual shots. At this moment, she is in a state I never see her in...La La Land...I'm sure with her legs spread, mouth open, eyes slanty, very out of it.

She will have better breath when I get her home and be all loopy, too. LOL!

Sure is quiet and lonely here today. Cost me over 400 bucks for this damn silence, too.

I always hate that loopy-ness they get. It sort of freaks me out until it wares off. My Lu was really loopy one time and it was eve when I picked her up. And she wouldn't come to bed. She just kept sitting in the living room, watching the wind blow the trees outside the window. It was eerie. I didn't like it at all.”

“I know, Pixie...I hate it too. It scared the hail out of me last time, too. Thought she was going to fall over with each step. But, she did come to bed. Boy, was she ever glad to be in that bed too, I'm sure.”

“Yes, Stovie...I stopped shaving her. The vet wanted to charge me 12 bucks to cut her nails. I told him to forget it! Her back ones never grow and her front ones I do all the time. He then said he "do for free". He also said, "I love dog like my dog." I wanted to say, "No. You don't. You eat dogs where you come from." But, I refrained and simply just said, "No. You don't, but that's okay. Just make sure you do dog good."”

“Wolfeyes, how much does your vet want to clean your dog's teeth? Everyone around my area wants about $200, and that includes a blood workup to test to see if he dog can handle the anethesia. Some people say they only need the blood work if the dog is older.”

“Lipstick Hiker: It costs 220 for the whole dental thing. That includes the blood work which I do want done because it checks the liver and kidneys. Annual shots are 140. Heart worm pills about 40 or so.”

“Damn, I was quoted $400 for Cully's teeth. Poor boy's been losing them left and right and has horrible halitosis. I think that included extraction too though.”

“Yeah, Sass, extractions are 50 bucks each extra if needed. Don't think she needs that, though. They would have called me by now. I also heard that some places charge 65 bucks, but not sure if I would trust that?”

“i think it's sad that so many people complain about the costs of pet care, especially dental.

try going to a dentist and getting a tooth pulled for 50 bucks.

try getting x-rays and surgery done for a few hundred bucks.

i don't think many people know that most of the equipment and drugs vets use are the exact same that doctors use for people.
also, many vets have even higher student loans to pay off.

or look at it another way, vets and MDs have very similar education reqirements, yet MDs earn about twice what a vet makes.

i'm not talking about anyone on this thread. just making a general (on-topic) statement.

“Sacco, I'd have to agree with you that if you compared, the animals have it easy on the pocketbook. However, as much as I love mine, they are animals, not humans.

I have pet insurance on one of my cats - she's got horrible teeth. The vet me she was a lemon and she'd cost me a lot of money.

The other one, well, I'm guessing he'll live to a ripe old age if eating rubber bands doesn't kill him first. Had to give him a dose of hairball stick last night to make sure the rubber band made it all the way through his system. NOrmally they do, so I shouldn't be as worried as I am. He had half of it eaten before I even saw what happened. I wonder what his fascination with rubber bands is - anyone else have a cat that eats them???”

in new york, many MDs and vets go to the same school, cornell, and pay the same tuition (except there's far more scholarships to help med students)

i don't know about the difficulty in getting accpeted to the various programs, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.”

i'm saying don't bich about a $200 vet bill, when the exact same procedure would cost you (or your insurance company) 2,000!”

“I have had no problem with paying for today. Whatever I have to do to maintain her health, I will do. She is even chipped. She has cool clothes. LOL! She eats good food, and rides in a nice car. Because I have no children, I treat her like one. I just wish she were deductible every April!”

friends have told us before that we put way too much into our dogs.

they spend their lives waiting to be near us and trying to please us when they are next to us.
any one of my dogs would give their life for mine in a second.

i think that deserves something.

“SG, My mom's kitten Lola collects rubberbands and hides them in the couch cushions. My mom has found piles of them under one loveseat's cushions. I don't know about eatting them though.”

“My Jack Russell Terrier has recently started having seizures. About one a week that we know of. They seem to be getting more frequent. I'm afraid we're going to have to put him down. :(”

“I took The Weasel in this morning for her yearly checkup and the vet said he felt a lump. He did an ultrasound to comfirm it and now she's scheduled for surgery next Wednesday.”

“Smiley, I have a cat who eats rubber bands on occasion; I always know when he has because he pops farts that sound like cracking gum. I have 2 witnesses to verify this. He hasn't had any problems passing them.”

“Being in the equine veterinary medicine field, I think people who are not in the field would die if they actuall knew what the over head was. In the horse field, our overhead is about 6 times that of a small animal vet. They also say graduated from 1999 til now will have an average of $120,000 in student loans to repay. Just something to think about :)”

Nail clipping is about $30. Can that be right? My vet was throwing it in w/the teeth cleaning. He wanted to charge me an exam fee of $45 before to give my dog shots, so I brought her to a vet place that does shot clinics, so it cost $21. My vet w/exam wanted $77. I hate him, so I didn't let him clean my dog's teeth and will find someone else, plus I can clip my own dog's nails.

He gave the corona virus shot and not the bordetella for kennel cough, but the other vet said we don't have a corona problem, we have a bordetella problem. They are all a pack of money making theives. Never buy products from them.

Don't let them do bloodwork for heartworm if it's not in your area. They will even try to put the dog on medicine and the meds have big side effects and can be fatal. He said he would charge me less for the blood work to check for heartworm when I had the bloodwork done for the dental cleaning. Too bad I found out first that there is no heartworm where I live, b@stard!!!!!

“Many evenings I join neighbors as we walk our dogs for the last pee of the day. One neighbor has a son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. Well this family, both neighbor and son adopt stray dogs. Each have 2 dogs. Report from the neighbor that one of her son's dog had some spine problems and a growth under the jaw. Well, said son took the dog to the vet and came home with x-rays, meds etc, with a $600 bill and said we're still $5,400 away from matching (the other dog's vet bills.) The other dog had some strange affliction and was attacked--separate incident--by another dog that did some major damage. Total bill $6,000. Both dogs appear to be doing well.”

“One x-ray, $75.”

“Lips, Our vet recommends switching up the kennel cough vacines every year so the dogs are covered for everything. I guess like us, their systems get used to the same meds all the time and the meds become less effective.”

“Well, the Total Bummer News Of The Day is that the Weasel's problem is pretty bad. She had her exploratory surgery this afternoon and the mass
was in a worse place than hoped for --- and they were unable to remove 100% of it. Samples are on the way to the pathologist to determine if it's
benign or not.

“Buzz Buzz is feeling sickly; he can't eat, or more like he can't poop. So, 2 days before I leave for a week, he's going to the vet. Looks like he might be boarded there too. Poor old thing. The vet was surprised he made it past 2 years; he's now about 12 human years. Not bad for a cat with a heart defect among other things.”

My beta Fred is sick. His air bladder isn't working. I feel so bad for him. He has to struggle to get his food and just sits on the bottom of the bowl.”
