I remember having to special-order a bag from REI because of the zipper mismatch issue.

yeah - they got back to me via email -- they will special order the left zip (if they can). Special order qualifies for dividends, but you pay shipping from manufacturer.

If I remember right I was able to pick it up at the store when it got in.

It was right before a trip, too.

I have started to prefer left-zip bags. I find it easier to unzip them from inside the sleeping bag. I didn't realize this until I got a bag that was left-zip on closeout. I figured I was willing to deal with the left-zip for the price I was getting. Now I have a closet full of right-zip bags wishing they were left zip.

pitts - The reason I need a right and a left zip is ... uh ... well ... hubba hubba! You get the idea.

Speaking of REI and dividends, isn't it about that time of the year?

Got mine yesterday. I have enough to get a Titanium spork.

Oh well, at least its something.

I didn't realize until I read the financial statements that REI was a billion dollar company. Of course, I was half asleep when I went through it, so maybe I miscounted the zeros.

Supposed to be one of the better employers to work for or something like that. Don't know where I read that.

Have you ever encountered a bitter, depressed employee there? Maybe one who knows nothing but never one who doesn't like being there.

OPIE I just ordered some items off REI and some things where on sale ( I think) and it allowed me to use my dividend.

Can't find anything to buy? Have you checked out their catalog?

Awesome, Keetn! Looks like they used Throck and Missy as models back then, too!

I own "E" on page 22!

Looks like you slept through the whole thing.

There's a 2.25 lb single tent in the catalog. They missed the ultralight calling!

Raichle ski boots where just so so, but their hiking boots were the ticket. I still have a svea with a separate orifice needle rather than the built in.

Anyone ever see the original cut of "Ten Commandments"? At one point Charlton Heston, points to the MOUNTAIN...for just a second you see a jet contrail going behind it.

Oh, yeah. Sometimes I forget the Moses-REI connection. Thanks for the reminder!

It's the oft overlooked 11th Commandment:

Thou shalt go unto REI and gather up ye gear.

To get back to the original topic, if you can't find something to buy at REI, you're just not trying enough.

When I get bored I drive to Montreal and go to the MEC (Canuck version of REI) and then to lunch at a nearby restaurant - usually with a newly bought magazine.

Sadly, I haven't found anything I don't have during the last few trips. Except for a new bicycle; I'm saving up for that.
