This board is in a flat format.” 4:07:21 PM 3/11/05 “I see you're from the Houston area. There are a few folks who post here from that neck of the woods, so maybe you'll get a few responses. BTW, pink hasn't I know she's just dying to tell you all about it.” 4:09:14 PM 3/11/05 “cool , thanks for the reply, i hope i see every park there and hike a few days at each one. thanks!” 4:11:46 PM 3/11/05 “Hello tomcamping. I will be in Alaska in July and August, Flying to Fairbanks where our outfitter will meet us at the airport and fly us directly to a cabin near Brooks Range. www.bettleslodge.com We are planning to hike some 300 miles at the most with a couple food drops along the way. So far 6 are booked for this trip, Are you interested???/ If so E mail me at refrigeratorkid@wmconnect.com” 4:13:04 PM 3/11/05 wow “what a trip refrig!!! i would be most interested” 4:16:35 PM 3/11/05 “LOL @ Bit. Um... I think Refrigerator seems to have a much more in-depth trip planned... Thinkbubelz & I were mere newbies on our trip... :-) But if I had the cash (or the same $375 airfare from Chicago) I'd do it again in a heartbeat-- we barely scratched the surface! But, I did put up a mini Trail Report here: http://www.thebackpacker.com/trailtalk/thread/33244,-1.php Still have a gazillion pictures at home on my computer... Only a few on my webshots page... I'm taking a web design class and hope to get a real web page up by the end of this semester... :-) One word of caution to Tom-- if you go in late August/early September, that is the rainy season. We happened to get lucky last year and had great weather, but that was quite unusual according to the locals... Normally, after about Mid-August, it basically gets cold and rains constantly....” 4:33:03 PM 3/11/05 “thank you pink, hopefully i can get there in may or june. pass the word if you know someone who would be interested” 4:41:10 PM 3/11/05 “wow. i really wish i could join ya, tomcamping. i spent 10 days in alaska this past june w/ some other folks from trailtalk and it was amazing. i'm itching to get back. we went in mid june (there for the summer solstice) and the bugs were pretty mild. seemed like an ideal time of year to be there. we backpacked only four days. dayhiked in denali state park. kayaked on the resurrection bay. here's a link to the first of three albums: http://community.webshots.com/album/157885187ESSiJz if you get there, be sure to post some pics and a trip report when you get back. please!” 1:13:28 PM 3/12/05 “Tarabull... I think you are the only TTer who's actually seen the bulk of our photos! Still haven't uploaded them all on webshots... Taking a web design class. I hope to have a "real" website up this summer!” 11:34:37 PM 3/14/05 Gates of the Arctic Nat'l Park “Am going there in June 2006. Backpacking or/and floating a river. Am flexible on time period and exact location. (at this point in time anyways) Anyone interested in joining me as a travel partner? For more information, please email me at tmrstein@yahoo.com Looking forward to hearing from YOU! Thanks.” 10:24:33 AM 4/21/06 “I know there are probably hundreds of great books about Alaska, BUT I really enjoyed a book by Keith Tryck titled Yukon Passage. I first saw a TV show on the journey on National Geographic, then there was an article on it in NG (Dec 1975). The substance of the book is that 4 guys set out to recreate the journey of the gold prospectors. With backpacks, they climb the Chilkoot Trail, build a raft and float down this huge river, build a cabin to weather the winter, and dogsled to the coast. I read it when I was young, and it made quite an impact on me. You might find it in your local library ( http://www.worldcatlibraries.org/wcpa/top3mset/003760aa1c310c11.html) or Amazon.com Good luck with your adventure.” 7:25:55 PM 4/22/06
