I can't get over how clean your color is Michael. That's got to be one FINE camera, film and processing.

I drove up the hill after work yesterday...hoping the bears were out.

What a beautiful big bear WW! he is really dark looking ..was he that dark black brown?
maybe he is a she?
He or she is very healthy looking thats for sure..thats so nice to see!
The meadows with all the water in them are beautiful! I bet the shootingstars are going to be really great this summer...in fact all the wildflowers! What elevation are those meadows at?
Thanks for sharing more of your beautiful work

Thanks Blind Willie, Dub.

Madeintahoe...yep he/she was jet black. It was with another bear that was more the color I usually see...

Pic of the second bear din't come out very good...he/she just wouldn't strike a pose for me ;) Kept on the move...not enough light to stop action so the pics just blurr a bit.

The meadows and bears are at about 6,500' elevation.

My wife and I had one brush against our tent when we were in it last year at Rickett's Glen. At one point, we were out of the tent and he was 20 feet away. My hands were shaking. A big one too. It stood up at one point on it's hind legs at which point I slammed the car door (still outside of it) and it bolted.

Nice pics!

Yes, the other bear is the color I usually see them..that nice cinnamon blond shade. But I love the dark black color too. You were so lucky to see them! I have only seen 7 bears in my life so far..and 6 of them were on our property, the other one out in the wilds backpacking which is far better and safer for them to be in then in a neighborhood.

Yeah no snow at 6500 feet..like Tahoe it looks..we live at 6400 and are now snow free. I can't wait to see what the flowers do and the meadows are going to be so lush and green

"F8 and be there."

The two things that piss a photographer off most when he hears them: 1) You must have a really good camera! 2) You were so lucky to get that shot!

Kudos to you WW, you obviously have paid the price, and have some terrific photos.

I was hiking near Lodgepole on Monday and spooked up two fawns.

The grass was as tall as the fawns

Wow!!! I know it's your skill and all, but is it also the lenses you use that make everything so crisp? It seems like my photos are getting less crisp with each trip I take. Yeah, I know, I should wipe the lens now and again, but that can't be the whole problem.

Karen...yes, the lenses make a big difference. The lens I used to shoot the fawns cost $1,150.00 (Canon 300mm f/4 "L" with image stabilization.) You can get a brand new Canon 75-300mm zoom telephoto for $150.00 . For an extra $1,000 there better be a difference :) LOL!

Straight out of the camera Raw images are a little flat. I adjust levels(highlight and Shadow)bump the color up a notch and sharpen them.

Typical photo processing....not really enhancement. These are all things a regular old photo lab does everyday. Even the corner drug store makes color, contrast & sharpness adjustments.

At that price, I'll settle for envy and remember to clean my lenses more often, maybe read my Raw manual. But the crispness makes a world of difference.
