“Pics: http://photobucket.com/albums/v241/pixalu/Lk%20Snoqualmie/? On Friday we drove out to Cle Elum and met with Rat Packer’s nephew and his wife at the Mexican place. We had dinner with them. Then we followed them back to their place and dropped our stuff and met their super cute doggy. Then we went to Roslyn (8 mins away) to the Brick (the bar on Northern Exposure) to see the band Derby. Next morn we were up bright and early. After visiting with their horses we went to breakfast. After a quick stop at Safeway, where I found Arrowhead water in tiny 6 oz bottles, perfect for bringing my Bailey's, we headed out to the trail. The first 7 miles of the trail (Taylor River Trail) is very touristy, due to being nearly flat, wide and has 3 very nice waterfalls on them. We had lunch at the third waterfall, where some scoutmaster guy marveled at all the crap I was carrying. (For some reason lately, I've been bringing the kitchen sink!) Then we pressed on for the last mile to the Snoqualmie Lk trailhead. The trail was rugged. Most of the trail was in creek/runoff beds. Rocky and wet. The old boardwalks were very very rotted and Rat Packer stepped on a "see-saw" one and nearly broke his ankle. Both of us fell at one point or another. (An exposed sharp root grabbed and held tight to my shoe until I literally fell over trying to pull my foot loose.) The big stream crossings had no bridges. Just really bad/slick logs someone threw across. I slipped and nearly fell on the one that was 5+ feet over the creek bed. But a mile from the lake there is a super cool canyon with the water rushing forcefull down through carved out HUGE boulders. Saw not a soul on the trail. Totally quiet At the lake we passed a campsite with typical Seattle grunge rocker types with a big car camp style dome tent (who later entertained us with a variety of strange foreign instruments and drums.) Our campsite beyond theirs was really nice. Secluded in trees on the edge of a steep bank above the lake. There we settled down to some dinner at the little fire that I built (yup I built it and it was nice!) I slept like crap, because I was cold (as usual) and I had nightmares all night long. : ( In the morning we had some breakfast and decided to check out the rest of the lake. The trail unfortunately does not go back down to the shore at any point, but continues to the other lakes onto Lk Dorothy (where we were last week on our day hike) We approached Lk Dorothy from the North on Hwy 2 last week. This time we were coming from the South, from I-90. We've determined it would make a super cool easy thru hike. We hiked out. Saw only 2 other people on their way to the lake and about 25 on the Taylor River Trail section. LOL! On the way home we stopped at North Bend for some beer, onion rings and fried prawns. Mmm. Then to make myself ruin my diet further, I had a chocolate malt from Scott's Dairy Freeze. : p” 10:02:22 AM 3/15/05 “Sorry it's late folks. I'm having trouble with my wireless internet.
