So I'm new to the site and I was just wondering how many people here share my love for riding fast bikes. Not a Huffy or a Specialized, but a sportbike.

I am not a stunter, I couldn't do a wheelie to save my life, but I am a track rider. I love getting out on the track and draggin' knee through the corners.

Track season is upon us and I have to share my backpacking time with track time. Just in case you don't know to what I'm referring, here's a link to some pics.

Hubby has an Aprilia Mille 1000. It's one of the fastest bikes out there. Mine is a cruiser, Yamaha, Virago 535, but on the hwy, I'm right up there with hubby at 90 mph. I mean on one of our hwys that are big and empty along a lot of empty countryside.

I'm down with it! Nothing more adrinalin pumping than dragging your right knee going around a nice bend at 35!

DeoreDX, yeah I've been to Barber. I rode the track last year and plan on going again this fall. Yes, the museum was awesome, nice VFR, man.

Lipstick, the Aprilia is a pretty fast bike. I'm not a v-twin fan but I do like the way they look.

The fastest I've gone on the track was 155mph on the front straight at Road America. The fastest I've gone on the street is 165mph out in the middle of nowhere. It was on my ZX-10R. That bike will do 108mph in 1st gear. Its a monster.

I saw the superbike races during Daytona bike week one year. Amazing!

I set my trip up for May 14-15.

I hit 155 on the back straight before turns 10-11 on the GSXR at Road Atlanta... that was a 155 cauculated from RMP and gearing cause of speedo error at that speed. I've hit 160 indicated on the VFR which is high 140's. I don't ride fast any more though. Just a couple of months ago a good friend of mine hit a car turning in front of him @ 130+ mph speeding where he shouldn't have been. Needless to say he's dead, and killed the passender in the car. Hit the car so hard in fact it flipped it over. That's a lot of kinetic energy. I stopped riding that fast about 6 years ago for some odd reason.

I used to roadrace when I was young and dumb. My current streetbike is an '04 Suzuki 'busa.

Nice bike, Swampy. Those busas are fast.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, DeoreDX. We had a number of riders go down last year. Its a sad part of riding that cagers don't pay attention to us.

Wounded, I'm headed down there April 22-25. I'd go with you in May but I'm working that weekend.

Many years ago I would take a naked '74 Ducati 750 up to 140 mph once I got it broken in.

been a long time............

I don't have a sportbike just a Yamaha Dual sport. I see a lot of them around though and some of the riders on them on the local interstate ride like nuts. Weaving in and out of lanes at high speeds. At these speeds one mistake will be the last. They also did away with the helmet law last year so now half don't have helmets on.

My brother-in-law is an ER physician.

They refer to helmetless riders as organ donors.

Wow, 171mph indicated. I'm gonna try to hit 175 this year at the track where its safer.

MarkO I agree about helmetless riders. I always wear all my gear: helmet, jacket, gloves, pants, boots all designed for riding. I've crashed a few times and had only very minor injuries because of the gear I wore saved me.

Hey, if anyone can host a video for me I've got a great music video made from trackside/onboard footage.

There is a guy in Europe called Ghostrider. He runs around messing the cops and running crazy and video tapes the chases. You can Google the name ghostrider and find some. He’s amazing!

Here's one of him in Stockholm. Top speed, 185. Made my butt pucker many times. When this guy finally buys it they're gonna pick him up off the street with a sponge.

Whoa!!!

Splittin' lanes at speeds like that is pretty crazy!

That Ducati twin sounded like an airplane at that speed.

I know, he's crazy. racing on a track with other skilled riders is one thing because you can at least know what people around you are going to do. He's gonna eat a car sooner or later.

You're exactly right, Nigal. Just riding normally on the street is dangerous enough. Cagers are always trying to run you over. Its worse when you ride like an idiot in traffic. That's why I go to the track. I get to push my limits in a controlled environment with others who are at a similar skill level.

Chills, ever hear of lane sharing? They do it in CA. I'm not sure if it's what they do there or if it's allowed. It's when they ride in between lanes and in between cars. I think they basically do it in slower traffic, but some people do it in faster traffic.

I know in my car, I will veer to one side to see traffic ahead of me, but if I were in CA, I would know to look for a bike that may be trying to ride between me and another lane.

I have done 125 mph, but that was in a porche 911.

Yep, I sure have heard of lane sharing. I wish it were legal here in Illinois. I'm all for it. I hate being stuck in leathers in traffic in a hot day, and you know the bikes hate it... they overheat easily. California is a very bike friendly state.

Splitting lanes in slow traffic is one thing, but doing it at 80mph when traffic is moving along is not too smart.

Lane sharing is great when there is a back up or accident up ahead where you can get to the front of the line or the bridge is up.
