“I talked one of my local outfitters into carrying Enertia Foods and Enertia Foods is sending me a FREE sample case of all there meals. Too Cool!!!” 4:59:11 PM 3/17/05 “Pretty cool. Let us know how they taste. I've only had Mountainhouse stuff... which I liked quite a bit.” 5:20:25 PM 3/17/05 “Not only is their food AWESOME, but they are a great company to do business with! I placed an order with them Sat. night and Tues. night when I got home from work there it was!” 5:49:09 PM 3/17/05 “UPluver: Now be honest, where did you first hear about this great trail food? It is very good, lighter weight, less costly, and probably better tasting than the alternative "freeze dried" stuff. Nuff said. Go Enertia!” 5:52:07 PM 3/17/05 “Enertia is some goooood stuff. the weight to calorie ratio is awesome.” 5:54:25 PM 3/17/05 “Did anyone see that their packaging won an editor's choice award in Backpacker Mag. Not that that means much...” 5:55:44 PM 3/17/05 “Not that I really care, but did anyone notice that the portions are now slightly smaller... that is, the 2005 version vs. 2004...” 5:59:23 PM 3/17/05 “Lol @ golfhiker......well to be honest I heard about it on TT first, but it was you raving about it that convinced me to try it!!!” 6:19:14 PM 3/17/05 “hmm I thought that they said they made them bigger.” 7:04:50 PM 3/17/05 “Just mix a half a pill of Enzyte in with your meals, I heard it makes them appear larger and it's all natural.....” 11:46:52 PM 3/17/05 “enertia has the best trail food that i've had.. i can't stand that freeze dried crap.. always gives me a stomachache. enertia isn't the best food around, but it's certainly the best TRAIL food around IMO.” 1:44:31 AM 3/18/05 “I unfortunetly have recently found out about them and whats more is I live about 15 min. from their headquarters. So you can bet I have found my new trail food.” 6:42:54 AM 3/18/05 “We can all thank LeSubtil for introducing us to Enertia a few years ago. If it weren't for him where would be all be now?! Eatting lipton noodles and mountain house sweet and sour pork (akk!). :)” 6:43:24 AM 3/18/05 “Nice, Lt! I'm not knocking Enertia or Mountain House, but I seldom do the prepackaged meals at all...I started b'ping with stuff off the grocery store shelves and it works for me. More variety, cheaper, easy to get. And the kids will eat it. Plus I like making my own concoctions on the trail, then I can add whatever I feel like eating.” 7:44:09 AM 3/18/05 “I still like deydrating my own. Some pretty tasty stuff, IMNHO.” 8:06:45 AM 3/18/05 “I finally saw some Mary Janes Trail food at REI the other day. I asked one of the salesman there about it how it compared to Enertia foods. He said in his opinion they were about the same. I mentioned that a person had said that they take less time to prepare than enertia. Guess what they take about the same time. It has to sit just like the enertia meals for x number of minutes. Also the cost was higher than enertia. I can't say how they taste but I will stick with enertia for a while.” 8:14:28 AM 3/18/05 “Mountain House! Yum!” 9:38:11 AM 3/18/05 “Well I guess I won't be going back to see the obviously uninformed staff at the Brentwood REI again! 8P Enertia Sucks!” 9:40:36 AM 3/18/05 “Mary Janes sucks!” 9:41:34 AM 3/18/05 “Yo Mama!” 9:42:14 AM 3/18/05 “Bison, looking at the directions for MJ products the food has to sit as long as enertia does to be ready to eat. So you must be eating it before it is even ready =)” 9:47:08 AM 3/18/05 “Hmmmm.... I've seen a lot of enertia meals that take a lot longer to prepare per the directions... first soak the beans for 5 minutes, then add to the rest and wait 7 more............ still waiting......... I'm eating, you're still waiting..... and my food tastes better, sucka, still waiting.... I'm done eating, you're still waiting...” 9:49:13 AM 3/18/05 “"Add bean mix to 16 oz. water and set aside 5-7 min. to start rehydration. Boil 4 min., cover and set aside 7-10 min. Add sauce mix and stir until smooth. Season to taste." I'm eating, you're still waiting 7 - 10 minutes.... "Add bean bag to 16 oz. water. Set aside 5-10 min to start rehydration. Boil for 4 min. Cover and set aside 5-7 min. Add sauce to beans and stir to mix. Sprinkle with Cheese and or Hot Peppers and enjoy!" I'm eating you're still waiting 5-7 minutes.... "Add mix to 12 oz. boiling water. Seal and set aside 5-7 min. Mix in sauce and set 5 min. CAUTION HOT POUCH!" I'm eating you're still waiting 5 minutes.... last edited: 3/18/05 9:53:08 AM” 9:51:29 AM 3/18/05 “So ya have five more minutes of sitting in camp picking your nose than me. LOL!” 9:54:09 AM 3/18/05 “lol, yes that 5-7 minutes while sitting relaxing in the wilds is vital ;o)” 9:54:24 AM 3/18/05 “When Ewker rolls into camp on the old rag hike and has to wait 5 minutes longer than me to eat, when it's been a hellacious hike and he's really hungry, he's gonna be pissed that he brought enertia. And I'm gonna slurp loudly, to make sure he knows I'm eatin' while he's still waitin' :)” 9:57:11 AM 3/18/05 “I'm not a member of the Enertia Cult.” 9:58:03 AM 3/18/05 “Yes you have to wait for some of them (mostly for beans to rehydrate), but not all of them. Allegheny Alfredo Pouch Directions: Add noodles to pouch then add 12 oz. boiling water. Seal and set 5 min. Cuff top of pouch down 2” to make bowl. Add sauce and stir until smooth. Season. Max Patch Mac & Cheese Pouch Directions: Add noodles to pouch then add 16 oz. boiling water. Seal and set 5 min. Cuff top of pouch down 2” to make bowl. Add sauce and stir until smooth. Season. Moosilauke Goulash Pouch Directions: Add noodles to pouch then add 12 oz. boiling water. Seal and set 5 min. Cuff top of pouch down 2” to make bowl. Add sauce and stir until smooth. Season. San Juan Stroganoff Pouch Directions: Add noodles to pouch then add 12 oz. boiling water. Seal and set 7-10 min. Cuff top down 2” to make bowl. Add sauce and stir until smooth. Season.” 10:03:53 AM 3/18/05 “Um, didnt we go through all this before??? Am I having deja vu? BTW Bison, I bought a Mary Janes meal a while back and cooked it at home. It wasnt really that good like it was on the trail (after I had been hiking all day). I am sticking with Enertia and my home dried stuff.” 10:04:55 AM 3/18/05 “After perusing the site, I'd say you have to wait for most, and those are exceptions.” 10:05:05 AM 3/18/05 “As I recall, you didn't cook that meal according to the instructions...” 10:07:47 AM 3/18/05 “wrong Bison, most of the enertia meals take 7-10 minutes..no presoaking. No it won't bother me if your done eating before me. I always take my time because I have lots of it on the trail” 10:09:04 AM 3/18/05 “I've also cooked and eaten the spaghetti in less time that what it says on the package. The only one’s I’ve seen (although selection is limited in my area) that take extra time were ones that had beans. As a side note: It’s ridiculous that we’re fighting over something as trivial as dehydrated backpacking meals. If you don’t like them that is fine don’t buy them. I’ve liked the ones I’ve had so far and will buy more.” 10:11:57 AM 3/18/05 “Beep Sorry Ewker, you have to go to the back of the class. Out of 24 offerings, 13 require two steps, or more, and at least 12 minutes to prepare. Of those that don't require that amount of prep, several are sides or desserts. last edited: 3/18/05 10:24:51 AM” 10:23:36 AM 3/18/05 “you don't have to prepare most of them with the 2 step method. It can de done in one step =) lz, Bison likes to think he knows all sees all ;) last edited: 3/18/05 10:26:07 AM” 10:25:36 AM 3/18/05 “Also out of those that are dinner offerings 9 out of 15 require two steps or more and more than twelve minutes. Ewker the only comparison can be by the pouch method, which in many enertia cases require two steps, as this is how Mary Jane's meals are prepared. Having to clean a cookpot adds more time and effort. last edited: 3/18/05 10:31:28 AM” 10:30:34 AM 3/18/05 “never cooked an enertia meal in a pot yet!! always use the pouch ;)” 10:37:57 AM 3/18/05
