About a month ago I saw a real neat chart showing the price of a barrel of oil in relationship to the price of a gallon of gasoline. No surprise that for years the increases in the price of a gallon of gas closely followed the price of a barrel of oil. That is until last July when the price of gas started to go down in relationship to the $40-$50 a barrel price of crude.
>
Why do you think that was? Could it have been because of the coming presidential election? IMO if you don't think that the oil industry would act in conspiratorial manner to manipulate an election then you're not looking at the evidence.
>
The oil industry is just playing catch-up now. They'll pad the take a little to make up for last summer and fall's shortfall and 'W' will let them drill ANWR as a reward.
>
Damn I'm glad that I didn't buy that new truck two summers ago.

Gas was up a bit more this week. I paid $2.21 per gallon today for regular. They interviewed some truckers on the news last night and they threatened to stop driving when diesel reaches $2.60. They also said to expect to start paying more for everything as the transportation costs get passed on. On another news channel they showed one area in California that was charging $3.79 for regular.

I paid $2.07 in Manchester, NH yesterday. Gas stations around here are charging $2.19 a gallon for regular.

2.50 here. Arg!

I remember when I was 17 it was $0.88. Back then friends could throw change in your ashtray and call it contributing to the gas fund. *sigh*

Not too much more in some places. The record high was set in 1981 would be $3.08 a gallon when adjusted for inflation. I see a lot of people trying to sell their SUVs this spring and summer.

The current average is $2.32.

Record high, adjusted, would be $2.97.

Prices would have to increase 28 percent!

Which is why I said in some places, such as LA where it is (according to ChicagoMark's post) $3.03.

Where I live they are predicting it will be over $3 a gallon before the end of summer.

Hell no! I'm not selling my SUV. I'm just going to start taking the bus. As soon as I get myself a little Razor style scooter to go the 7 blocks to the bus stop (that injured foot thing again! ugh!) But it drops off outside my office. Yay! I figure for the $4 a day at $92 a month for bus fare is way better than the 4 tanks of gas at $45 each! I see a savings of nearly $100! Woo Hoo! It's going to cut into my sleeping time tho. But I'll survive. I can read and do stuff and listen to music and help the environment. Win, win, win situation!

Gasoline is a FINITE resource.

It cannot be "regrown" like trees.

It WILL be gone someday.

The only ones who will survive and thrive will be those who have prepared and trained to live off the land.

Hopefully, not in my lifetime but soon...within 50 years.

I heard on the news last night that gas prices are starting to have a negative effect on large vehicle sales and the overall economy. Hybrid vehicles are in short supply and selling for a premium and GM fell short by not even having one for sale. Ford is not making enough units and losing out also.

Makes you wonder why Ford and GM haven't jumped in feet first? There bonds have reached junk status due to poor prospects of large SUV sales going forward. Even those of us who desire the big SUV's may also desire a second car that gets great mileage. Come on Detroit get it together.
