Hmm, dunno, never seen that!

I saw a program on Discovery, I think, that outlined how gas gets from oil to in your tank. Lots of interesting info there.

Maybe this would be a good time to switch to metric--gas would only be about 75 cents per liter now!!

Just said on CNN that it's up to $3.55 in most of Atlanta ~ and some places there are charging $4.99 per gallon. They then went on to say a lot of places are rationing fuel and only allowing $10 per customer.

I had a work appointment in the western 'burbs outside Cook County. I saw regular for $3.26/gallon, so when I saw $2.87 I topped off.

I heard that some gas stations in Pontiac, MI were out of gas--except Premium.

bit, that's interesting to know, because my husband is pissed off that they can sell gas for less, so why can't other places. Also, it just one Flying J with the low prices. We have one closer that charges more, but now I can explain to my husband why their gas is cheaper.

Thrifty, I have no Mr. Fuel in my state that I know of, just the Flying J.

Side Note: Try and keep a full tank or close to it. I learned this from owning a motorcycle. An empty tank can build up moisture and cause hesitation. I think there is actually a product you can put in your car gas tank to get rid of it.

I paid $2.62 this morning for gas. Just down the street it was $2.74. It's still a bargain. I wonder what the Federal mileage reimbursement rate will go to in 2006?

$3.19 here.

We go to Chicago and Wisconsin a lot from the far reaches of Metro Detroit.

The car vs. train argument to Chicago is starting to lean pretty heavily toward train.

It always takes about two fill-ups to get to Wisconsin via Chicago. That's like a hundred to 120 bucks for a round trip 7 hours each way.

Flights cost $160 per person when the sales are on. So, that's $320 for an hour flight.

A drive to a Lake Michigan ferry is one tank and then $60 per person round trip. So that's $180 for 4 hours driving and 4 hours of cruising.

So, the winners are boat and plane. The economics of driving are putting me on the water and in the air more.

On the train home today, we passed 2 stations in Hammond that was up to $3.47. The stations near me in Highland are all at $3.19.

The owner of the Mobil station that I am somewhat friends with said they will up their price on Thursday morning to $3.79 and possibably $4.00 for Friday.

This is gas gouging plain and simple! No way these prices should not be this high. No one seems to care though.

I hear that...we may have to cancal the pony trip and with mike haveing to pick up the slack at work from the companies who are destroyed down south we may not even have any weekends for a while. He will be working to 1:30 am tonight...they are getting overloaded with work projects like you wouldnt believe. The main electric coil company for the use is in 11 feet of water right now and the owner of the buisness nowhere to be found.

It's not the supplier or the retailer... it's the idiots at the pump running otu to fill their cars up that's driving up the price. It's called supply and demand. Short term decrease in supply causes increase in prices. Buncha idiots panic and start buying up all the available supply causing even more supply issues and drives up the price even further. I bought just enough gas to make it through the weekend and into the middle of next week (I was out of gas and had to buy or I wouldn't have bought any). Stories like my co-worker's dad who went out and fille dall 5 of his cars up is what's causing the price to go up so drastically.

I think it's only part that DeoreDX, but I think it might also (at least in my area anyway) might be station owners looking to make some extra profit seeing as it is a holiday weekend that generally has more gas sales than a regular weekend. I haven’t noticed a real increase in people buying gas in my area, although there have been some localized shortages of gas at stations that didn’t raise their prices.

I didn't think I'd see scenes like this again.

The stations on the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway are leased from the state and have a different set of rules for pricing. They are usually among the highest around and I avoid them. Now they are the lowest. Last night I filled up at $2.579 and the station was mobbed. Tempers were flaring.

The place I usually go is among the cheapest. Last night they were at $2.999. I was able to fill my wife's SUV up at $2.799 - we rented a shore house for this weekend and have to get there.

This morning I saw prices from $2.579 (on the Parkway) to $3.199 for regular. The highest prices were at the non-branded stations. The wholesalers raised their prices much more than the branded stations.

LOL! I still drive my '91 Subaru to work! I just filled up yesterday for about $20 while the guy next to me in the Excursion was rolling well over $50.

We're still holding at $2.65 (reg)in Billings where there are 3 oil refineries in the area (although, that dosen't seem to make any difference)

aero, I laugh at this big SUV people who got in on what was a fad. I mean, really, what was the purpose for them to buy a vehicle that is the size of a small truck?

Yeah, the gas prices were lower then, but why buy something that is harder to maneuver in traffic and park and still, even then, it cost lots more to fill up.

My in law is hurting with his huge truck which I think is a V8. He got an "employee discount", what a scam. Now it's costing him a fortune to go anywhere in PA where you really have to travel where he lives to get anywhere, stores and his new property which he doesn't go to as much to fix up and just spends longer days there so he doesn't have to go back and forth more often.

Why not just buy a minibus or a truck? I can see if it's functional and you need it and you are just stuck with high gas prices now, but most bought to keep up with the Joneses.

If you've ever taken several children and a dog on vacation, you'd know why people bought SUV's. They weren't all purchased for vanity.

We got ours when gasoline was under a buck a gallon.

Violin, LMAO!!!! Actually, the really big SUV owners seem to look like married women who I see grocery shopping.

I don't know if I've seen what look like lesbian woman driving SUVs.

My sister got a monster SUV a year or so ago and they offered her really big incentives. They would had to offer me gas money too. She still admits to being happy, but on top of that, she bought a Chevy Trailblazer that got some bad reviews because her husband can fix Chevys. Well is she bought an Accord, it wouldn't matter, because they only need mainenance, oil changes etc. She says she wanted an SUV on a truck body???? She has one older kid who is never with her and mostly drives alone. This huge vehicle is a total waste.

I drive an '01 Durango R/T 5.9 liter V8. I get 12 miles to the gallon on average and it requires premium. Man it sounds bad ass when it opens up! I can't wait to run over some little hybrids!!!

I just filled up my car at the local Shell station,$ 2.89 a gallon for reg unleaded.

half a block down the road Mapco was $3.29 a gallon with a line down the street. No one was at the station but me getting gas. I wonder what they were giving away at Mapco?

Interesting observation -

Gas at the stations on University is about 20 cents more than gas at the stations on Broadway, and those main roads are next to each other. Wonder why?

Geez!

I drove to Adrian, MI tonight to have dinner with my wife before her night class.

As I pulled in, I heard shouts, "Out of regular." Then, I tried higher grades, but no luck.

So, I pulled out and went to the Wal-Mart nearby. I waited about 15 minutes and finally got a tank of gas at 3.19. Everywhere else was up to 3.39 and higher.

This country is falling apart.

It's become real obvious in New Jersey which gas stations have refinieries in NJ and which don't.

The ones with local refineries are still holding under $3/gal, though I think it's up to $2.99 now, while all the other gas stations have pretty much been $3.50+/gal since Tuesday.

I don't think I've ever seen a 50+ cent divergence like that by pumps across the street from each other before...

This is a bad time to have a 35-mile-each-way commute to work...
