Make your decisions
Yes, the summer/fall PIT programs are now listed on the website. I've known about the Black Hills area ones since January (due to my continued questioning for possible stories)... and wanted to wait and see what else got listed.

Would really like to do the rock art one in the southern Black Hills... and possibly the one looking for old prairie homesteads near Scenic, SD (which is in between units of Badlands National Park and close to Indian Creek, which is being considered for wildnerness designation). The one at Scenic -- which really isn't scenic -- is put on by archeologist Keri, who I worked with last summer. She's fun!

Also, Keri is putting on a PIT at the Hudson-Meng Bison Bonebed north of Crawford, Nebraska. It's a great site to camp... showers and a field kitchen. We camped there last year for the PIT I was on at Warbonnet Battlefield. The bonebed is situated on the Pine Ridge... and is close to the badlands area of NW Nebraska (Toadstool Geologic Park)

For the two PITS I'm considering, I think I'll try to do one... and then "visit" part of the other as a reporter for a day or two. Also, I will try to work in a one- or two-night hike in the French Creek Natural Area of Custer State Park on one of the trips, if at all possible.

Dang, many of the PITs in Wyoming and Colorado also sound very good!!

Here's the link to the offerings, then click on "New projects."

I thought Custer St Park was fantastic and those fearless prarie dogs in the badlands were something else.
