Its not me.
A survery of 172 economists deemed that overspending and the huge deficits poised a bigger threat to the economy than terrorism.

Way to go shrub. What a puke.

The United States should balance the budget by cutting all those liberal social programs, log more timber in the National Forest, and drill for oil and gas on all that Federal Land.

Fact is it costs more money for the USFS to build the roads into the national forests than the loggers pay for the timber. And the USFS always pays for the roads. Then guys like you turn around and talk about the chump change the federal government gives out in welfare programs for the poor. Even those programs like WIC (Women and Infant Care), where they give away milk, are really just subsidies to the dairy industry because they produce too much and have garrantees from the government to buy the surpluses.

Don't even get started on subsidies. One of my favorite conversation starters with dairy farmers is to ask their opinion on welfare. After a few rants and raves (generally against)it's fun to start throwing in all the ah hem, "subsidies" the farmers get. CRP, timber management, wildlife crop damage etc etc that the gov't pays them to not farm or to get damages for what animals do to their land while the farmer doesn't allow hunting to curb the depredation. It goes on and on, and all I can see from my point of veiw is that the fields lie fallow and the farms are shutting down. When I was a kid you couln't go more than a few miles before running into a dairy farm, now you have to really look hard to find one. And milk factories don't count.... just my two cents...

Under the Bush Administration:

The air is cleaner in the U.S.
More lands are being given Wilderness designation.
Democracy is being spread around the world.
Life expectancy is up.
Incomes are going up.
Jobs are being created.
America is safer from terrorism.
Tax freedom day arrives sooner.

I agree with the majority of the people who voted in the current Republican leadership, the United States is sure a lot better off.

Funny thing about tree selling.

Even with an impending economically devastating shortage of timber worldwide, due to an army of millions who make their living cutting trees

there is currently a glut of timber (Tragedy of the Commons thing) on the market and therefore logging companies will not pay what they should for timber out of the National Forests.

Therefore, the remaining national forest timber (located in areas where logging is feasible and wise) should be held off the market until prices can be had for the timber which are greater than the costs to administer the timber sales.

Even a sudden complete liquidation of all national forest timber (not in designated roadless areas) about 100 million acres which might generate an average revenue to the federal treasury (completely discounting administrative costs and environmental safeguards) of $1000/acre (some few acres may have $50,000 worth of standing timber but most are more in the $100/acre range)

or put another way a total yield of $100 billion dollars or about 1/5 of this year's federal deficit -

Not A CureAll !!!!

Not to even mention 'grazing rights' on federal land which is a gross subsidy.

The grazers should pay their fair way or get the cattle out of there.

Wildlands generate great returns!

Australians are as just as concerned about United States foreign policy as Islamic extremism and regard the US as more dangerous than a rising China, according to a new poll.

The Australians Speak: 2005 survey, commissioned by the Lowy Institute for International Policy, found 57 per cent of Australians were "very worried" or "fairly worried" about the external threat posed by both US foreign policy and Islamic extremism.

"We asked about a series of threats from the outside," said the institute's executive director, Allan Gyngell. "Most startling of all was the precise equivalence of Islamic fundamentalism and US foreign policy as a source of concern.
