“I might. I had planned to take thursday and friday off from work. I will know more soon. They boys were so disappointed when I told them that we weren't going. They are going to be thrilled now, even if we can only go for thursday night and friday day. Friday night campsite--how close to our cars will we be? If we stayed the night on Friday, I would have to leave pretty early on Saturday.”

“Ruby, the walk from camp to car is prolly 3 miles or less, not too far. I am not sure exactly since the spot is from memory. I would walk it in the morn if I had to get back.”

Nonconformist, if you have a gear sled for winter camping it might on the sand. Birch's talking about perhaps taking our cooler in.”

“The wife and I won't get there until around mid-late afternoon so we'll just have to find ya. Birch said something about an area he knows south of the Noremburge trailhead?”

“My tentative plan is to get to the SP campground by 6 or 7 on Thursday. If anyone needs me to secure a site for them, let me know.

We were thinking of trying the NF one first (closer and nicer) and resorting to the State Park one if necessary.

“I just responded to your email, Sass. I will hit the NF first. If by chance you don't see my vehicle (gray RAV4 with lots of stickers on the back), then check for a message board or something. If that campground is full, I will try to leave a message somewhere before heading to the SP.




also FYI, I don't have power at the moment. I am using my laptop with a battery which I suspect will not last very much longer. So I don't know how long it will take for me to respond.”

“I will be leaving either Friday night or ASAP on Saturday. I have to drive 4 - 5 hours home, unpack, clean up, drop off the kids, then drive 2.5 hours to Indianapolis, check into the hotel and then get to the armory. Jon's is due at 9:30 p.m. and I'd like to get there early.”

“Yep, forecast looks good so far. 'Bout time the lake warms up. I read a few weeks ago that some odd weather pattern (I think that's what it was) was keeping our shoreline water temps much colder than normal. Hopefully the kids will get to swim without turnung blue.”

“Just an FYI, Ludington S.P. is one of the most popular and is very likely to be full even on a Thursday. Lake MI Rec area campground is a popular one, too. Especially this time of year.

After thinking about this a minute, I have a suggestion. TImber Creek N.F. camp sites on U.S. 10 just east of Branch would be an alternative. A couple of the sites there are big; all that is required is a Huron Manistee vehicle pass. It's rustic, there are outhouses and a hand water pump. I know this is a bit out of the way (about 13 miles) for those driving up 31, but not much compared to not having a place to stay. Your thoughts?”
