NO! I don't wanna go! Ohio is boring enough and we have a few hills. Kansas would be like living in the worst, most boring part of Ohio.

whooohoooo! Just another reason for me NOT to move to Kansas.

drove through Kansas once, and there really isn't ANYTHING that would want to make me move. Nothing! NOW...if they would give me a free home...I may think about it.

If I go into the witness protection program for some reason one day, I will definitely consider this...

That's for the first offence Bowlder. His second offence will be strangling Stove Stomper with his bare hands.

awww, this reminds me of Dunadan, sniff-sniff! they should advertise that he lives there, then people will move there in droves. that, and the backpacking-in-the-mountains possibilities.

Think of the money you could save on buying topo maps. How expensive is a blank sheet of paper?

Been there, done that!
I'll give you my spin on it whether you want it or not. When I was working on the constructtion of the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station in New Strawn,KS I once dreamed up the Kansas Visitors Motto. I was sitting on the john and wrote on the stall wall.

"Kansas Visitors Motto"
"I came, I saw, I wept."

Needless to say Dorethy and and the rest of the farm boys working there didn't like that too much. Hey I was trolling even before there was an internet! LOL!

I spent several days in Garden City Kansas. It's not the end of the world... but on a clear day you can see it from there.

I bet the "garden" part of Garden City is just a ploy to get people to visit. There probably is no garden.

I thought about it once upon a time... but there aren't enough mountains there for me. Konza is pretty though. I'm stickin to the PNW these days. ;)

I just drove to eastern Kansas and back..... all in one 3 day weekend. Hopefully for the last time. I was retrieving a divorcing daughter. Eastern KS is not a bad place actually. The Flint Hills are pretty, and it's green, and wooded. As for the rest of the state, I believe Wyoming even has a leg up on it.

I drove thru Kansas on the way moving to CO - Florida is flatter. But in Florida you do occasionally come to something that at least resembles a town, and even a couple of "cities" if you go far enough.

The Flint Hills are nice. I lived in Emporia which is a small city between Witchita and Kansas City. It was the home of William Allan White. Lizs will know who he was. Good little town except for the Iowa Beef Packing plant, the hail, and the tornadoes. Anyone ever read "Prairie Erth" by William Least Heat Moon? If you want to get a good feel for eastern Kansas read that book.

I lived in Great Bend, Kansas for the summer once when I was in Drum Corps. It wasn't too bad there, the town itself had a lot of nice trees. No hills of course. It's extremely flat. How flat? Well, I downloaded the topos for Great Bend once. The contour lines were reallll far apart. Then I looked at the legend to see the contour interval. It was 5 feet. The contour interval for the topos of Huntsville are 20 feet.

So yah, it's flat.

Now that I googled him, I might know who William Allen White was. (solly, you flatter me waaaaaaaaaaaay too much lol)

I'd move to Kansas... or Nebraska... or South Dakota. GIVE ME FREE STUFF!!!

I'll give you several good reasons to move to Kansas:

1) You would be a mere couple hours away from CO and AK and very fine hiking.

2) Some of the Cities in KS are awesome. I'd chose Kansas City over Cleveland or Detroit anyday. There's alot going on there.

3)Colleges and Universitys cost about half what they do in MI. I believe KSU's tuition is about what the average community college cost here.

4) If you've never seen an egg fry on a sidewalk or the roof get sucked off your gramma's garage you're missing out!

5) Flat isn't always portrayed as beautiful but trust me, it is in it's own way.

a couple of years ago...
I drove from my home to Denver, which took me right across the lovely state of Kansas...east to west. on the westward journey, I went via Rt 50. and headed out to Bents old Fort and the sand dunes in colorado, on the eastward journey, I went via I-70. What I learned on that journey was that sunflower seeds can really aid in breaking the monotony of kansas...I also figured out how to solve the nations trash problems...move everyone out of Kansas and use it as the nations land fill. it is centerally located to the nation and would be better served if it had a higher function...

joking. I did see some cool things...like Nicodemus NHS, I saw the big ball of twine, and I learned how to eat sunflower seeds without using my hands...It was a very memorable trip...I did the entire journey on loose change from my change jar.

Sure, it's not like you need to stop and sleep while you're driving through Kansas. You can just tie off the steering wheel when you get tired. Hopefully you wake up before you get to Colorado though.
