CaCycle, I've been backpacking CA for decades, too. I have experienced incredible climatic variation at all times of the year. I have been in nonstop rain that turned into a blizzard in August and wind that blew away my tent and 40 lbs of gear (before I was a 30-lber) as I prepared to stake it out. I always bring a rain jacket and rain pants. Yeah, I don't use them for rain on every trip, but I do use them for wind protection every trip.”
