Kraft Recalls White Chocolate Over Possible Salmonella Contamination

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,299298,00.html

I saw the article this morning, and went to check the pantry for any offenders. Nope. Not even any unsweetened baking chocolate. No chocolate at all. I need to correct that situation.

That's amazing, especially since it's not even made in Hershey, PA anymore!

Edy's ice cream used to make one called hot chilly chili; it was vanilla ice cream with a bittersweet chocolate swirl and hot and spicy peanuts, blended together. Man that was some good stuff.

Although Hershey candy is no longer made in, say, Dartmouth, N.S. or Oakdale, Calif., anymore, the three factories in Hershey, Pa. are still there...

The factories are still there, but from what I read 1,000 workers are supposed to lose their jobs if they haven't already with the production moving to Mexico.

And cacao returns full circle back to Central America.....

The Maya and the Aztecs both consumed cacao with chili powder.

RichB - The Hershey Co's "global supply chain transformation" seems a bit too confusing to show up well in news stories and headlines. The factories in Dauphin, Lancaster, and Luzerne counties are still producing and actually gained production units out of this, however the Reading plant is closing.

Other closing or now-closed plants are in California, Connecticut, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec. There is a new plant in Monterrey that is receiving most of the production from the closing facilities, however some is also shifting to existing Hershey Co. factories in Illinois, Virginia, and Tennessee.

And, suddenly, both my wife and daughter (4 yo) are now learning Spanish as a result. :/
