The human race is living beyond its means. A report backed by 1,360 scientists from 95 countries - some of them world leaders in their fields - today warns that the almost two-thirds of the natural machinery that supports life on Earth is being degraded by human pressure.

The study contains what its authors call "a stark warning" for the entire world. The wetlands, forests, savannahs, estuaries, coastal fisheries and other habitats that recycle air, water and nutrients for all living creatures are being irretrievably damaged. In effect, one species is now a hazard to the other 10 million or so on the planet, and to itself.

"Human activity is putting such a strain on the natural functions of Earth that the ability of the planet's ecosystems to sustain future generations can no longer be taken for granted," it says.

“It's a line that Rove has to take - there's nothing much else he can say.

Bush's biggest success is being a good campaigner, and that's in large part due to Rove. The tactic seemed to be to keep Bush on a simple message, and repeat repeat repeat. While this is going on find a weak spot in a political opponent, truthful or not, and get others to attack attack attack.
Rove did it in the race for Texas Governor, the Republican primaries and in both campaigns.

Where Bush has fallen down is policy. Whatever the merits of the policy the only major policy success forced through is the tax cuts.
His main foreign policy initiative has been a significant failure and stymied any other foreign policy progress.
He's also managed to do absolutely nothing in his second term, and given new meaning to the term 'lame duck'.
I personally think he's had enough and can't wait to end his term.”

No really we went from 93 to 9/11 getting hit time and again (where civilians who never took the oath to defend the Constitution died)during the Slick Willie era and saw ZIP ZERO NADA in response.

yeah heroic men and women in the Military are being killed and injured....sadly its one of the downsides of the job.

But would you rather have them hitting Joe and Jane Smith in mainstreet USA or going after the people trained to kill them?

I have brought up the simple economic destruction that came as a result of 9/11 not to count the loss of freedom (Federal Air Transportation Airport Security Service comes to mind) the general crap we have had to put up with etc.

Imagine if Bush had dealt with these terrorists like say Slick. One morning we are going about our daily activities and the news breaks in with a major attack in say a MAJOR city with nonexistent chem or bio weapons. What would THAT cost?”

I'm not even too sure AQ is trying too hard to hit the US at the moment as they are all about weakening resolve in a 'war' or attriction (Iraq). A significant terror attack on the US would be counter productive for them at the moment, as it would re-ignite domestic resolve for overseas intervention. I think AQ will look for some sort of victory in Iraq before it turns to the US.”

Really? I'm pretty sure the loony left here would blame Bush for invading Iraq and forcing those poor innocent terrorists freedom fighters to strike at us the only way they can. They'd want us to get out of Iraq and never look at the middle east the wrong way again because then they'd be happy with us and leave us alone.
