Got me muh EZ Pass!

No more waiting for toll trolls to mint change for somebody with a $100 bill. No more waiting for people to ask directions to East Bejesus. No more waiting for truckers to get their tickets punched.

Best thing I ever did for travel. I've used mine all the way up to Conneticut, into Ohio, and south, too.

In Illinois it's called an I-Pass. It's a beautiful thing, isn't it?

whats a toll booth?

It truly amazes me how many people still won't get one. If I were stuck in a cash lane and kept seeing all the EZPass people zipping by in their dedicated lane, it would eventually make me mad enough that I would get one, too. Do all those people really like sitting there all the time?

I guess after using it five or six times I'll get over the giddy feeling of breezing through the toll booths. Also, when I see the tolls being deducted from my bank account.

Techntrek, in my case I don't travel on toll roads all that often, so it was easy to put off. Also, in Pa., it was only recently that on-line signups were possible. So the short answer is, I just never got a round toit! But now I did.

Northern thing? Virginia has some, West Virginia has one, ...

In Illinois, if you don't use an I-Pass, your toll is doubled. So it's 80 cents for cash and 40 cents for I-Pass users.

Of course, I'd prefer no tolls. But what can you do? I wish there would be one transponder that would work with every system.

Yeah Ewker, I forgot that people who live in Virginia consider everybody who lives north of them (wherever they live in the state) as Yankees.

Ooops, make that DamnYankees!

Dang Geo, you are behind the times. ;o) Ezpass is the best thing since sliced bread. I use it everyday to escape New Joisey. I find it funny that there are no tolls INTO Jersey (excpet the thieves at Dingman's Ferry), but you have to pay to get OUT. It's like they want to trap you there. Yikes!

Ezpass is very handy on the NY Thruway and the big buck bridges like the Tapanzee and GWB. It's a temporary relief not having to shell out that 5 bucks. Ezp works on the Mass Pike but not in NH yet. I hear it will work in Maine soon, according to Johnny Damon Artex. Long live Ezpass!

Once the trolls doubled their fees, we found a different route with no troll booths.

Don't travel the Illinois troll system enough to warrant the $35+ up front fee.

Ruby, I agree, it would be great if they standardized the system so all gizzmos wold work on all troll ways.

You guys ain't got nuttin' on Italy!
It costs in all of Italy to use their intertate system, called the autostrada. To get on (at every ramp) you punch a ticket, and when you get off, you pay at the booths, much more than in Yainkee #&%!$ree! The yeller zip-thru lane here and the electronic device that lets you just buzz thru is called Telepass, Americans could finally get them Jan 1, and I wuz the first!

Pennsy, talk about sliced bread, whewweee! In Italy's summer, the lines can get lawng, the Venice area you need a book on tape or something for your wait, and those(us) Telepass ppl just buzz on by!

Toll booths are the scourge of modern society. I think in all of Utah there is one toll road, and it's on private property that some scumbucket tried to capitalize on. I think he lost his shirt.

Indeed the Maine Turnpike will go to EZ Pass this year. I hope it's by the time of my June trip.

The theory behind troll roads (I like that moniker) is that people who use the highway pay the upkeep. I don't think the idea is so bad, but it does put a crimp in the old travel budget.

There are some bridges where an enterprising person can escape Jersey without paying trolls. If I'm in the Gap area I go down to Belvedere to slip back into Pennsylvania. That would not do for someone in Easton though. It's a bit of a side trip.

Yeah, it's the best. It really pays for me, being a Staten Islander. The MTA just raised the (one-way from Brooklyn to Staten Island) toll to 9 dollars! With the amount of times I have to travel to Brooklyn, that would add up. With EZ pass, I pay half and get reductions on some of the other bridges, too.

Carefull about those EZ-pass (etc) lanes. Some are maintain speed & some are 5-mph which is effectively stopping. You can get a photo ticket/fine for 1 mph over the posted limit. They make $$$ any way they can.

Can't ya all just picture Geo blasting thru the EZ pass lane, with Stella in the jumpseat?

$9 for a one-way bridge toll, Tree? Holy guacamole!!

When i drive to visit relatives in Michigan, i prefer to pay the toll on the NYthruway as the road is in such good shape

So I'm back with my X.

Are you thinking about getting one of them there horseless carriages next Geo?

Toll roads are a good idea in theory (those that use the roads pay for them) but in practice, it costs so much just to collect the tolls, it is highly inefficient. It turns into just another political fiefdom/patronage trough.

Horseless carriages? Man, where have YOU been? Those things are on their way out.
Geobeet

Yeah, WS. The toll is doubled to 9 bucks, as you don't pay going through to Brooklyn, just coming the other way.

It's expensive, I know. But, that's life in New York.

TB, you just have to move upstate. There aren't any tolls north of Albany, except for the ferry across Lake Champlain into Vermont.

Although to live here, you might have to start wearing flannel shirts and hang deer heads on your walls.

I'm not going anywhere. I still haven;t gotten over the move into the Treehouse. I know it was last year, but I had to move two apartments in one day into that house (mom's and mine). I'm staying put!

I remember years ago there was a sign on a house between The Garden and Keene Valley:

"No dogs, cats, kids, or anybody that voted for the park!"

LOL Geo. That really funny considering the park was established in 1892. Anyone that voted for the park probably would have already been dead.

It was there in the early 1970s, but I did not see it on my last visit in the 1990s. Somebody said the old geezer died.
