Lunch “hi I just bought allot of hiking gear because id like to do allot of long day hikes with my dogs this summer can someone give me some real good lunch ideas that I can bring with me I don't want anything that I need to cook what I do is camp for 4 days at a camp site and do day hikes thanks last edited: 3/30/05 7:38:01 PM” 7:37:22 PM 3/30/05 “Wendy's chili.” 7:41:49 PM 3/30/05 “Bagels and peanutbutter Triple decker pb&j sandwiches hard cheeses and salami trail mixes with dried fruit nuts and chocolate power bars or other "energy bars" and so on and so on.......” 7:42:16 PM 3/30/05 “I love those tuna lunches you can buy or assemble yourself. Tuna in a packet (waterless). Then add mayo (+ whatever) and spread on crackers. Consider using salmon or spicy tuna instead of regular tuna. Also, summer sausage and cheese on crackers makes a great lunch...make sure you have something to clean-up good with. PB&J - but not on bread. Use bagels, tortillas, or pita bread. You can buy serving sizes of peanut butter now in sqeeze tubs. Hummus and Pita bread, perhaps with a packet of spicy tuna. Mix the hummus with water and perhaps oil. Yummy! Lots of no-cook possibilities, especially if you can make up a lunch in camp before you go. last edited: 3/30/05 7:45:21 PM” 7:43:53 PM 3/30/05 “ah, but if you coat all sides of the bread with peanut butter, the jelly wont bleed through. That's the beauty of the triple decker.” 7:46:45 PM 3/30/05 “Yeah, and the fingers in the Wendys Chili is just extra protein.” 8:12:09 PM 3/30/05 “There's a good thread on this subject over on Whiteblaze...you'll have to search for it. I backpacked for 6 days once without cooking and did just fine with energy/nutrition. Variety is the key...if you eat the same thing everyday then you'll be craving cheeseburgers by day 3. variety...variety...variety...” 10:48:34 PM 3/30/05 “my fav is crackers, pepperoni and cheese....yummmmm.... biscotti....(a hard cookie, holds up well when packed....) tuna in a pouch mixed with packets of mayo and relish.....” 3:47:17 AM 3/31/05 “peanut butter & honey on a wheat tortilla! MMM MMM MMM!” 4:13:38 AM 3/31/05 “I love making beef strips out of london broil on the BBQ. I like eating solid white tuna out of the flip-top can w/ a fork. I like cheese, crackers & fruit. Sometimes I stash stuff along the trail if coming out the same way I went in. Something you didn't like initially tastes much better on the way out when you're hungry.” 8:38:27 AM 3/31/05 “I like summer sausage too. I asked a friend who is a state ag & market inspector (food) and he said it would stay good for a couple days unrefrigerated. I just can't bring myself to eat it on the 2nd or 3rd day on the trail on a hot summer day.” 8:56:13 AM 3/31/05 10:12:06 AM 3/31/05 “I find I do better during the day if i just munch instead of sitting down to eat a big lunch. I bring crap(a variation of Gorp), Jerky, peanut butter tubes, dried fruit, power bars, and somtimes a can of smoked oysters with crackers.” 10:20:32 AM 3/31/05 “I like foil packed chicken wrapped in tortillas. Take extra mayo and relish packets from cafeteria or fast food joints to make chicken salad.” 10:27:27 AM 3/31/05
