What's Your Favorite Flower?View MessagesEntertain My Curiousity “Recently read Botany of Desire and today bought some daffodils, tulips, and irises. In the midst of studying mineralogy...I got distracted by just how different yet beautiful each of these flowers are. Anyway, it lead me to wonder about a few things. Three questions for you 1. What is your favorite flower? 2. Do you prefer red or white wine? 3. Do you prefer milk, dark, or white chocolate? last edited: 4/01/05 4:59:47 PM” 4:50:39 PM 4/01/05 “Oh yeah, my answers are 1. Wild lilies and any tropical flower 2. Red wine...on a Pinot Noir kick these days 3. Dark chocolate” 4:52:46 PM 4/01/05 “1. Sunflower 2. Big time on the red wine 3. Milk chocolate” 4:58:05 PM 4/01/05 “dogwood a spicy old vine Zinfandel from Australia Dark Chocolate 77% cocoa or better. paired with the above wine while sitting under the above tree.” 4:58:12 PM 4/01/05 “Bird of Paradise White White” 4:58:30 PM 4/01/05 “Currahee - you from NC? I miss the Dogwoods from childhood. Grew up in NC and they were my all time favorite..that and the honeysuckles.” 5:06:21 PM 4/01/05 “I'm an adopted Tennessean. I love the Dogwood because of the way the flowers seem suspended in midair. Very ethereal. Honeysuckles are great too. I'm going to plant them around the perimeter of my yard.” 5:10:40 PM 4/01/05 “In one of his books about the Army of the Potomac, the late Bruce Catton talked about the dogwoods when the army left its camps and crossed the Rapahannock on its way to the wilderness. I believe the gist, if not the exact quote, is, "The dogwood blossoms floated in the forest like flecks of snow."” 5:13:53 PM 4/01/05 “Sounds like a scene from an old-school mystical Kung Fu movie. Great quote Geo. BTW - Birds of paradise are fabulous. If I'm not mistaken, my Mum has a few in her garden...that and loads of orchids.” 5:16:59 PM 4/01/05 “i don't know what they are called in english: http://www.maerchenbilder.de/flieder-maigloeckchen.jpg can't believe I found a picture with both of them on it. white or red (as long as it's sweet) really dark chocolate last edited: 4/01/05 5:18:23 PM” 5:17:56 PM 4/01/05 “Gemini - I believe those are hyacinths. One of my friends only likes sweet wines. Recently found a kind that's been a big hit with her...Syrreh (sp?) I think it is. I also had this very sweet Greek wine in Tarpon Springs, Fl....daphinos (sp?).” 5:22:47 PM 4/01/05 “Gem, the lavender ones look like lilacs and the white ones look like lily of the valley.” 5:23:07 PM 4/01/05 “Doesn't look like hyacinths to me. Hyacinth would have long leaves coming up from the bottom.” 5:24:27 PM 4/01/05 “Gem, the purples are lilacs. They smell soooo nice. I don't know what the white flowers are. Mine: 1. Flower: Tulips. The green stems/leaves are so bright and cheery. And they come in so many pretty colors. I'm so glad to see them at the start of spring. Lucky for me the the tulip festival started today. Just an hour away, over 300 acres of tulips. Woo Hoo! 2. Red wine is the best. Pinot noirs are also my favorite. 3. All chocolate. Milk or dark tho. The white is ok. But it isn't really chocolate!” 5:26:21 PM 4/01/05 “Those blossoms do seem to float. The stems almost fade into the background.” 5:26:39 PM 4/01/05 “geobeat that's it Lilac and lilly of the valley. Thanks...I couldn't think of the name for nothing in the world. Twinkle Toes: if you remember the name of the wine let me know. I found a white wine the other day that wasn't bad, sort of sweet. I forgot the name already. [i knew i should've written it down] pixie, I love tulips too. Almost made my favorite list. last edited: 4/01/05 5:28:49 PM” 5:27:16 PM 4/01/05 “Syrah. I guess it's the same as a Shiraz. Yes, I think they are lily of the valley. Ya beat me on the lilacs tho Geo. I was still typing about tulips. : ) I love lilacs. I miss my lilac bush at my condo. It was nice.” 5:29:53 PM 4/01/05 Moscato d'Oro “This is one of my favorite dessert wines. Pairs well with soft cheeses and well, umm, pears. http://www.robertmondaviwinery.com/winepage.asp?WineID=198 Gemini: Germany also has a long list of tasty dessert wines.” 5:32:33 PM 4/01/05 “i know we have some good wines, but back then I really didn't drink a lot of wine. i always bought one bottle...same thing ever time. It was a white wine, but I can't remember the name. Yes, it was sweet.” 5:35:39 PM 4/01/05 “Shiraz is Australian for Syrah. Same grape, different 'tude. Not to be confused with petite syrah. Different grape.” 5:36:03 PM 4/01/05 5:37:23 PM 4/01/05 “Aha! Gemini, I found it. Geez, it's been about 8 or 9 years since I had it but here it is. It's actually a red, Greek, desert wine. Drumroll please: Mavrodaphne last edited: 4/01/05 5:39:02 PM” 5:38:02 PM 4/01/05 “Currahee - is it a sweetish white? I'll have to ask my friend which one it was. I don't really care for white wine. Though I recently had a Reisling which was lovely. Can't remember the domaine (is this correct terminology?) though.” 5:40:39 PM 4/01/05 “Twinkle toes. thanks ....writing it down right now. It does sound familiar.” 5:42:43 PM 4/01/05 “Orchids or gerber daisies Red wine - shiraz or Pinot noir Really dark chocolate” 5:43:06 PM 4/01/05 “Stickies are also good. I've had various Tokays and Ports. Fabulous.” 5:45:33 PM 4/01/05 “Moscato d'Oro is sweet. If you like Reisling, Chateau St. Michelle from Washington state makes one of the best. Similar to that is Gewürztraminer. mmm mmm mmm. If you really want to splash out try Inniskilin. It's an Ice wine from Canada. Mucho dinero though.” 6:21:27 PM 4/01/05 “that was it: Gewürztraminer that was the bottle I always bought in germany. small bottle of white wine. good stuff.” 6:25:18 PM 4/01/05 “I can't really pick a favorite flower because I don't pick wildflowers. But if I had to choose, I would say Indian Paintbrush is right up there with the best of them. I also love the combination of brilliant golden poppies in a field of bright purple lupine. I prefer beer over wine but if I was forced to choose white or red or someone would shoot my mom, I would choose white. I prefer milk chocolate. But that may have something to do with being a boob man all my life.” 6:26:11 PM 4/01/05 “Buck, you are crazy! LOL! Currahee, is the Moscato a Muscat? Seems the same. Perhaps Italian vs French word for the same? I've had some great Muscats, definitely sweet. And thank you for clearing up the Shiraz/Syrah thing. I couldn't remember why there were different names for the same wine. Those crazy Aussies like to be different, I suppose. ; ) Y'all should come to visit me. I can ride my bike up the Burke-Gilman trail from my house to Chateau St Michelle in Woodinville for wine tasting. The Columbia winery is across the road. The Red Hook brewery is out there too. Something for everyone. LOL! Ah, gotta love the drinking and riding. : P” 6:53:10 PM 4/01/05 “1. What is your favorite flower? deep red roses 2. Do you prefer red or white wine? blush 3. Do you prefer milk, dark, or white chocolate? chocolate milk please” 8:44:18 PM 4/01/05 “1. Lilacs 2. red grape juice (no fermentation please) 3. white chocolate please” 9:22:46 PM 4/01/05 “daisy red (shiraz) dark, dark” 11:16:40 PM 4/01/05 “Dogwood Blooms Red Wine - Cordova Vinyards I am not a picky man, I like both dark and white!!!!! :)” 11:23:44 PM 4/01/05 Pixie “Yes it is a Muscat. I would love to go out that way. Washington state is my favorite wine producing state. The grapes are more intense across the board than any other I've tried.” 5:13:04 AM 4/02/05 “I like twolips.” 6:21:58 AM 4/02/05 “trilium grandiflora bourbon any” 7:25:56 AM 4/02/05 “I thought you were into the aftershock Scorch?” 7:28:56 AM 4/02/05 “Out of 13 TT'er responses thus far 7 prefer red wine, 1 white wine, 1 blush, 1 lush who likes it all as long as it's sweet and 3 rebels - beer, bourbon, grape juice 5 prefer dark chocolate, 2 milk chocolate, 2 white chocolate, 3 who will gorge on it all, and 1 chocolate milk Flowers are all over the place but Lilacs and Dogwoods have some weighted popularity It's interesting to note that the White Wine drinkers all prefer the sweeter varieties of chocolate Now we know what to pack in on future group trips: Red Wine and Dark Chocolate! last edited: 4/02/05 8:35:40 AM” 8:34:55 AM 4/02/05 “okay Twinkle.... you didn't just call me a lush, did ya??” 8:37:54 AM 4/02/05 “who me? ;)” 8:39:05 AM 4/02/05 “1. Oriental Lilies 2. Red 3. dark chocolate” 8:41:59 AM 4/02/05 entertain my curiosity “red carnations white wine dark semi sweet chocolate! MMMMMMMMMMMM” 8:50:55 AM 4/02/05 “it really surprises me. I always thought I am on of very few who likes dark chocolate. All my friends around me eat milk chocolate only. The chocolate selection in stores should tell you that milk chocolate is def. the bigger seller. None the less...here on TT the maturity (huh? did I spell that correctly?) likes dark chocolate. Heehee...maybe it's all connected to a hidden gene that makes us all backpackers. LMAO. not that it matters any. And Twinkle: that's alright...we'll hike together one of those days. heeheehee LUSH!! last edited: 4/02/05 8:59:52 AM” 8:55:42 AM 4/02/05 “Gem - I think you mean majority When we finally hike together I'll have to bring some of that greek wine for ya! Yeah, the dark chocolate preference surprises me. I might have to expand my study!” 9:03:05 AM 4/02/05 “That's it. Thanks Twinkle. Will edit real quick. Dang too late to edit. Oh well. last edited: 4/02/05 9:06:54 AM” 9:05:35 AM 4/02/05 “Bump” 5:34:05 PM 4/02/05 “Columbia Vinyards makes my favorite domestic Zinfandel. It's very intense & spicy.” 6:24:50 PM 4/02/05 “1. Anything I can get to bloom in my yard. 2. I don't really drink much. 3. It's all good.” 6:30:37 PM 4/02/05 “I like Chardonnay wines like Fetzer which ranges from $7-$9 a bottle depending on where you buy it. I like anemonies. I'm not sure if it's because as a single flower it's very pretty or because they are grown in groups and the cluster of colors are very beautiful. They are great for people looking for flowers that stay alive into the fall. I like milk chocolate, but if it's mixed with dark in a truffle, than that's good too. I forgot about gardenias. They are a pretty flower, but their aroma is like heaven. I think it's Jasmine that also has a wonderful aroma.” 6:51:15 PM 4/02/05
