You just admitted to being on the "other side" Ban Lizs!” 8:04:54 PM 4/04/05 you see those prices... “very affordable.” 8:07:26 PM 4/04/05 “Air supported... Do I need to mention that Blow-up Kid Jump houses are not recomended in winds above 10mph. All I Can visualize is my daughter at her last B-day party when the Jump House Collapsed. :( not good! Funny :D But not good! Ken” 8:08:41 PM 4/04/05 “How long even with their "peanut" does it take to blow the damn thing up?” 12:39:36 PM 4/05/05 “My SD light year weighs less than their Burrito and costs less than half as much, too. What's the supposed advantage of the air supports then?” 12:41:10 PM 4/05/05 “Good question, bit. Those things are way heavier than my tarptent, and I don't need a pump, and I'm not worried about my tent deflating in the middle of the night, LOL. Interesting concept, but no thanks. Did anyone see prices?” 12:47:49 PM 4/05/05 “They claim 30 seconds to set up the Burrito, and a large vestibule for gear storage. I think I'll keep $185.” 12:50:22 PM 4/05/05 “I am sure Backpacker will have only the best to say about these overpriced, heavy things. Probably read something like. "Lightest and cheapest tent I have ever carried. Tent withstood rain that lasted 40 days and 40 nights while I was camping at the nearby State Park...errr, I mean Yellowstone.” 1:06:06 PM 4/05/05 “It's a gimmick, meant to reel in newbies who have a lot of cash, and no sense or experience.” 1:14:30 PM 4/05/05 “Hense, Backpacker the Magazine.” 1:19:20 PM 4/05/05 “Holy crap! Now I see the pricing. Burrito is $295, ouch, ouch, ouch.” 1:27:00 PM 4/05/05 “I saw that in AS Magazine. I thought, hmmmm too heavy.” 1:28:12 PM 4/05/05 harsh marsh “hmm... I did see these at a show this year and I am surprised by what I read here. Especially the kids inflatable remark. wheew Are you too conservative or what? What happened to embracing innovation, not to mention a good looking product. I was very reluctant at first, but havent you broken any poles in your life? I saw how strong and flexible they can be. An 80mph wind will make spagetti out of your metal poles, these will swing right up. Much easier to fix too. I agree the price is high, but how much do you pay for those hardshell jackets? These tents aren't made with stock asian fabrics... cheer up and embrace the newcomers...” 3:59:33 PM 5/05/05 “too heavy” 4:14:09 PM 5/05/05 “I don't have to embrace innovation if I think it's stupid.” 4:17:06 PM 5/05/05 “People speak about sleeping under tarps and he asks if they are too conservative. What do you have to sleep under to be considered daring?” 4:18:04 PM 5/05/05 “I'd like to see one to judge how strong it is. I like the idea of the Condensation Curtain™ in the Tenshi.” 4:32:38 PM 5/05/05 “ive never broken any tent poles in wind.” 4:55:44 PM 5/05/05 “I've broke wind in a tent” 5:08:57 PM 5/05/05 “glup troll????” 5:10:24 PM 5/05/05 ““I've broke wind in a tent” I prefer to "visit" other peoples tents and then break wind :D” 5:11:30 PM 5/05/05 “Some rough edges here... I should respons accordingly. By conservative I was referring to the opposite of cutting edge. Being open minded about new ideas and not rule them out until they are proven themselves. I was convinced quickly that these tents are a better idea than it seems at first to the experienced backpacker, I can't convince you until you see them and experience them yourself. Noting wrong with sleeping under a tarp, level of comfort is a personal choice. Never broken tent poles in wind, that is good, still poles break in many other situations, and sometimes repairing them could cost you a beautiful sunset.” 6:55:29 PM 5/05/05 “glup - What 'stake' do you have in this 'tent' company? Silly products get laughed at very quickly in this board.” 6:58:48 PM 5/05/05 “I find it hard to believe that I couldn't pop a hole in that support easier than I could break a pole. But I haven't seen them.” 6:59:43 PM 5/05/05 “I forgot to mention that they are really easy to set up compared to poles. I don't think that hypno would work for adventure racing if it weren't for its quick and easy setup. 'too heavy'...yeah, I agree they are not the lightest, hypno hits the spot though. Check out their news section, I guess the Hypno AR is going to some races, "Nemo News" . I wonder what is up with all these awards” 7:03:08 PM 5/05/05 “I wonder what is up with glup not answering my questiom? LOL What 'stake' do you have in this 'tent' company?” 7:05:03 PM 5/05/05 “sure i have stake, I am the only one who has seen nemo tents in this board... stovestomper, what are you here for if it is not for discussion? I have to take your insult just because I am fascinated by new products. I am not new to this and new products are what drive outdoor sports enthusiats.” 7:10:32 PM 5/05/05 “maybe you have stake in another 'tent' company?” 7:13:03 PM 5/05/05 “Username: glup State of residence: Member since: 5/5/05 Other comments: LOL Come back when you are not advertising.” 7:13:53 PM 5/05/05 “wow, you figure it out by looking into my profile. nice work sherlock. I did look at your profile for fun, you look like a fun character, what makes you so bitter in here?” 7:20:46 PM 5/05/05 “I just like messing with trolls and other silly things. LOL” 7:23:33 PM 5/05/05 “I thought this was gonna be another "spongebob" tent, but with nemo instead of course” 7:25:27 PM 5/05/05 “Real backpackers are interested in what is lightweight and proven to work. Only yuppie "outdoor sport enthusiats" are interested in things just because they are new, showey and expensive.” 7:28:20 PM 5/05/05 “i understand. you look like a true old school do it yourself dude. thats cool with me, but you dont have to bash us trolls. stove stomper, i see where it comes from by looking at your site, that jetboil surely beats those little cans in speed though. I have stake in that company too... I actually have stake on datasync too, great company, offers a variety of online services, including ADSL, Dial-Up Access, Hosting Services, ISDN and Frame Relay Connectivity, support for Microsoft FrontPage, and much more!.” 7:30:52 PM 5/05/05 “haha, i like the spongebob tents too...” 7:32:01 PM 5/05/05 “damn, a couple of hours in here and I am a yuppie with stake in nemo tents. what else?” 7:35:40 PM 5/05/05 “Just think...some little mouse comes along, and nibbles a hole in that thing and wham...deflated tent...I think I'll stick with the poles :D” 7:38:15 PM 5/05/05 “well i hope that the material is stonger than that. but again, mice always chew my tent walls, that is why i can't ever camp in the rain.” 7:42:40 PM 5/05/05 “mice can chew through anything!” 7:43:59 PM 5/05/05 “true that, as long as you dont keep food inside those air tubes i think you'd probably be fine.” 9:32:35 PM 5/05/05 “Lol...man if you aren't shilling for the company I'd be shocked! A poleless tent? No thank you....I have never broken a pole yet in many years-and even if I DID, I carry a thing called a "repair kit". You can also use a "withy" ie..a thin twig branch to make a "pole". No thanks! I am a big time gear whore-and even I know when something is a DUMB idea. The way of the future is LIGHT gear not heavy. I'd have nightmares of gear fauilure. Of course, if you really want to change my mind, feel free to UPS me a free tent, and I'll be more than happy to set it up on some sharp pointy talus in the North Cascades this month...hehheh!! PS: How in god's green earth do you get mice chewing thru your tent walls? Huh? Ever hear of something called "bear canisters" or "Ursacks" or "bear bagging"? Uhhuh....Mr. Super Backpacker......do you sleep with food in your tent????” 10:52:26 PM 5/05/05 “I agree with Sarbar1. If you want to prove the worthyness of these strange tents then put your money where your mouth is. I am a newbie so can't otherwise make any observations as I have only one tent. I have the Kelty Light Year my boyfriend got me last week and I ahve only set it up outside on the strip of lawn that is right ouside of my appartment.” 10:57:12 PM 5/05/05 Come On People Cut the Man Some Slack “Okay when I first looked at these tents I said "No way". They won't hold up against the wind. But then I thought "But that's the point isn't it?" To bend and even flatten in a hard wind and then spring back up. Kinda like the old adage "An mighty oak will topple in a storm but a sapling will bend." > It's possible these tents would be good for extreme mountaineering expeditions where gale and hurricane force winds last for days. Did anyone read the book written by a woman climber where a bunch of climbers are trapped for days in their tents on Mt. McKinley during a raging storm? There is a point where she notices that her tent is wearing itself out as it rubs against the poles. She and her climbing partner realize that if the tent goes they are dead. Maybe the guy who decided to build Nemo tents read that book. > As far as weight and price. Expedition conditions require heavier construction and therefore a higer price. These tents may not be for backpacking the lightweight way but they are an interesting concept and certainly seem to be constructed using good materials. last edited: 5/06/05 10:58:27 AM” 10:55:44 AM 5/06/05 “LOL It's either a Marketing person that did a search for NEMO tents or a troll. Note the one MONTH thread post lag.” 11:06:56 AM 5/06/05 “sarbar, the mice thing was a response to someone's comment... read before you judge...” 11:16:35 AM 5/06/05 “why is everybody in here so abrasive? you'd think that backpacking makes us unwind a little, maybe its just late in the week... I'll come back on sunday. haha” 11:33:58 AM 5/06/05 “glup, if you aren't a marketing employee, you came off as one from the start, that is why the harsh treatment. People around here don't like marketing hype. We've seen many, many one-day trolls who come in, try to make some buzz, and get tied to the rails. If you aren't a troll looking for hype, sorry you are getting the raw deal.” 11:38:51 AM 5/06/05 “Maybe a fair comparison would be to stack the Hypno up against the BD Lighthouse. Both are single-wall Epic freestanders with approximately the same floor space and weight. Other than the stated concern about broken poles, which I think is offset by the concern of an air tube failure, I see the Lighthouse having numerous advantages. The biggest of which to me is the height. 45” for the Lighthouse vs. 29” for the Hypno. That is a HUGE difference in livable space. I think most people would find the Lighthouse side entrance to be more convenient than the end entrance on the Hypno. And there is also the price: I can get the Lighthouse for over $100 less than the Hypno. I applaud innovation in gear and I don't doubt that the Nemo products may be a step in the direction of future tent standards. I just think there are just too many advantages of more conventional tents at this time for serious backpackers to consider the Nemo tents.” 11:52:49 AM 5/06/05 “I am willing to compare and test if they send me a free Nemo tent to try. After a short trial and test period I will send a detailed report!! HEEHEEHEE..now that's fair right?? BTW: I have the BD Lighthouse, and I love it.” 11:59:12 AM 5/06/05
