And the winner is.......
The longest 30 minutes of my life was the time between when I called my wife from Las Vegas, and she said, "I can't talk right now, Hannie just rolled her car!" (Hannie is my 16 year old daughter) and the time she called back 30 minutes later to tell me that she was okay. As for the Toyota Corolla, it's totalled. I'm amazed she lived to tell about it.

Thanks for the kind words. As for Vegas, the only time I spent outside was between the airport and the Tropicana. That town just doesn't do a thing for me when I'm alone. You need someone with you to really have fun there. Unless you're looking for trouble.

I dread the day my kids start driving. I still have 6 years until that happens. I also dread the day my daughter starts dating.

I had my daughter buy her own car & insurance. I had set an account up early in her life to help. Originally it was for college but it looked like she had multiple choices of scholarships. She saved too, knowing early in her life that I wasn't buying her a car. That all changed with a boyfriend. Everything went to S^%$.

She got the car. Loved the independence. Got her a job at Burger King with my Mgr friend but her mother got her a much higher paying job at the hospital with her. MD's didn't like somebody so young, but eventually came around because she was skilled on a computer.

I think the car expenses taught her some fiscal responsibility. I was hoping it would keep her alive because it was HER $$$. She did slide off the road once & rear-ended somebody with her 2nd car but didn't get hurt in either.

I paid for all repairs, brakes, tires etc because I wanted this car as safe as it could be with a teenager driving it. After highschool & 2 yrs of college she moved in with her boyfriend (yup, same one). Still didn't like him much. Still worked at the hospital with her mother & moved on to a 4yr school.

Got married & had a son at graduation. Her husband (grew on me) and she teaches 3rd grade. Her husband did a tech course & makes much more $$$ than all of us doing commercial AC/Heating.

They live around the corner from me & expecting their 2nd child any day. Of course my house is in hock (someday I'll be homeless) helping them. Don't think she slowed down her driving speed, until her 1st child. This wild child (treasure of my life) broke his arm in 2 places at his 4th birthday party as "mr incredible" leaping off the back of the couch. He's doing great & the cast should come off in another 5 weeks. The casts are fiberglas now & we all hope we don't get 'wacked' with it.

It sounds like there's hope for all of us. Like my mother always said, "It isn't over 'til it's over."

hobbit - I feel your pain. Both of my daughters had two accidents within the first year of getting their licenses. I paid for the repairs rather than get it on their driving record. They finally realized that cars don't actually drive themselves. Thank God no one was hurt.

My son never had an accident, but he got hit and seemed to break a lot of engines.
