I need some suggestions for headlamps. I will be using it on a Thru-hike of the AT.

This is my fave so far:

Moonlight with an updated IC chip, allowing users to adjust the power to reduce or increase illumination. This IC unit allows users to put the lamp into 'strobe' mode im emergency situations. Weighs only 3.2oz. Features 4 super-bright LEDs and is powered by 3 AAA batteries (included). Tough polycarbonate housing tilts to direct light where needed. Adjustable headband fits over helmets, beanies or bare heads. LEDs burn for over 70 hours at full brightness on 3 AAA batteries, 200 hours in reduced-illumination mode.

Give me some suggestions, or tell me about yours....

Thanks,
Blind Willie

I looked at that one, just didn't like the battery pack and the center strap. I went with the Petzel techtikka. I really like the red filter. Red gives plenty of light to see with, yes even night hiking, but doesn't mess up your night vision.

The term 'ultra-light and compact' is re-defined with the Scout LED Headlamp. Offering waterproof integrity and weighing only 2 ounces, it's small enough to fit into your pocket and forget it's there. The unique multi-functional hinged lamp housing directs light where you need it, and is designed to detach quickly and easily from the head strap for use on your hat, backpack, belt, or other gear. Powered by 4 lithium coin cell batteries (included) the Scout offers burn times up to 30 times greater than incandescent AA or AAA cell headlamps. Engineered to last a lifetime, the illumination comes from 2 high output LED's that are impact resistant, shockproof, and never require replacement- ensuring you will always have light when you need it. Features an electronically controlled switch system which provides easy switching between 3 levels of light output and two emergency signal modes.

I like princeton tec too, but I like the aurora better,,it uses AAA batteries instead of coin cells, which run cheaper over time, plus easier to get in more places. I've had mine a few years now and no complaints so far.

I have the Petzl Tikka Plus which I REALLY like. I also use a Photon Micro Light. The two together have served me well.

I sometimes bring a candle lantern if I feel like luxury. That I made from zenstoves web site from cans. I also have a UCO aluminum candle lantern which is really slick but much heavier (but burns for hours and hours!)

Think the neighbors down the street might get nervous if they looked out their window and saw that coming from your yard?

I'm just amazed and amused there is actually a subculture of flashlight aficionados and enthusiasts.

Man if I had one of those babies and could shine it on the dog next door when he's barking at night...why, I could vaporize the little bassturd!
