Woo Hoo!! Cannot wait to ride it.

I just ordered a Softail Standard on Jon's behalf. It needed to be ordered now to ensure it will be here for him by the time he gets home. He told me to also pick out a leather jacket and a helmet, but I'll wait till August to do that.

Isn't she pretty?

Be gone red x. I don't know how to fix that.

Thank you, Bit.

I ordered black for him. Don't get the wrong idea. This isn't going to be my bike. It will be Jon's. I think I'll be much more comfortable being a rider than driver.

I'm more partial to Jap or Euro bikes but that's just me ;)

I'm thinking of selling my 250 Rebel... don't really need a second motorcycle even though it does get 60-70mpg and I drive it around town a lot.

When Jon gets home in August, we were hoping to throw our gear and the bike into the back of his truck and head west for a good wander. We'll see if my schedule will allow for that.

Ruby, a little advise from a person who owns a motorcycle, which I do. The passenger should be as well protected as the person who is steering the bike, which means you should have a FULL helmet, leather jacket or one of those cloth ones with protective areas on it with leather pants and boots no matter how hot it is.

Chaps are okay if you don't fall on your @ss, because if you do, you are going to have a rash like you have never seen in your life, and the doctor will be picking gravel out of what's left of your butt.

I belonged to a woman's motorcycle site a long time ago, and no one wore protective gear. Then their bike would slip on gravel, they land on their ground with gravel stuck in their arms and their faces all scratched up. Then they don't want to ride anymore.

Some states do not have a helmet law, but it's stupid not to wear one or to wear one of those tiny metal ones. You will eat so many bugs, plus God forbid, you will kill yourself if you fall.

Wow, wouldn't my man be jealous...the poor guy is spending his hard earned money marrying me instead of getting a new bike.

Heck, I'm letting him have a motorcycle groom's cake at the wedding, so he shouldn't feel too bad. LOL!

I'm still in search of a leather jacket I like and fits me well. I'm using a really well made leather now that's older than I am, but seems to be built of steel.

Thanks for the advice, Lipstick. I will be wearing a full helmet and leather jacket every time I'm on the bike as will he. I have been to enough bike wreck depos to have heard all sorts of horror stories.

Who knows? When we do our wander about the country, I just might be looking all of you up.

When Jon gets back, we should have a welcome-back hike.... after you've had ample time to get, um, reacquainted. :)

I highly suggest replacing that stock seat. The Corbin Dual Tour is da bomb for both of you on long rides. The Corbins you can add and remove the back rest things for a nice clean look on short rides around town or added comfort on long rides. Very nice.

Stay safe. Never ride without full protective gear head to toe. Boots, riding pants, jacket, gloves, full helmet. Respect the risk. Never ride with any alcohol at all. Take an MSF course beginners or advanced whichever is appropriate. Have fun!

Ruby, the good helmets are DOT and Shnell if I got the word right, recommended. Mine is a HJC with an extra wide face shield so I can see around me easier. Not every brand will fit every head. It's kind of like with jeans.

One tip, buy the helmet so it fits very tight on your head, and I mean tight, because it will losen up and roll around on your head when you go for a ride later on. You can't imagine that it will losen up that much, but it does. If you partner is a biker, he will know how true that is.

Thanks for the helmet and seat suggestions. I like how that seat looks.

I'd love to bring the bike to lunch tomorrow, but I won't have it yet. I ordered the 2006 model, so it won't even be made until July. It will be one of the first to roll out of the factory in late July, early August.

So here it is. They just released the 2006 models. Might have it within two weeks.

Hmmmmm, darn it. Having some technical difficulties. Give me a moment or two.

Well, here's the page anyway.

Back when I was racing, a buddy came over to help me rebuild one of my engines, when he was ready to leave, he got on his Harley and suddenly suddenly exclaimed, "&*$$#@^% the damn bikes out of oil".

I asked how he knew and he said...."Do you see any oil under it"?

On that note....My boss has a new Harley and it doesn't leak a drop.

I wonder.....

It really is a brotherhood, isn't it? When Jon was home on leave, he rented a HD for a few days. While riding around with him, I noticed that other riders approaching from the opposite direction would give kind of a low hand signal to which Jon would give the same thing back. I teased him about there being a secret club. Then one time a bike approached us with a couple on it. The woman rider gave "the signal." Jon hesitated, then he gave it back. Then he apologized for stealing my thunder. He said that I should have given it back to her since it had been given by the rider, but I took too long. LOL I learn something new every day.

The dealership called me today to say that it would arrive any day now. WOO HOO!!!! In two weeks we leave for our road trip to Wyoming and Montana via South Dakota. Seems we will be going through Sturgis right in the middle of Bike Week. I told Jon I though we should stop in to check it out. He doesn't think we can bring the bike on the trip though since he won't have time to plate it, insure it, and get a trailer before we leave. :(

Yeah, I know that sounds bad. But our first and last day of our trip we will have two extra passengers--my sons. Gotta have a place to put them. So we are taking a vehicle as our main source of transportation. Our plan was to find places to stay each night and then use the bike to tool around and explore from that our "base camp."
