I'll tell this story that I've told before. My ex hubby lived in a farming neighborhood where these two guys kept ripping off all kinds of stuff. Finally, one night, a guy spots... shall we call him "Leroy?"... in his shed. He calls up all the neighbors who have been ripped off.

They get there and, from what I understood, they circled around Leroy. Someone may have hit him. They for sure had a baseball bat to intimidate him.

Long story short, I can't tell you if the guy even got charged. I can tell you my ex was charged -- along with all the rest of the group -- by Leroy with whatfreakin'ever. They all were called a "vigilante force." And it cost us $600 in a settlement, which we could ill afford at the time.

I also remember hearing that perhaps Leroy's car ended up buried on some farm???? (lol, see it's not just in cities where people/things end up at the bottom of something...) And I know my ex brother-in-law slept with a gun at his bedside for quite a while.

So........ that's my tale, take from it what you will. lol...

Use your cell phone. A camera or video is nice. A lic plate is good. Take the time to calm down & get a good description. Clothing too, but secondary because many change.

Your actions show clearly that you do not believe the justice system would adequately punish this guy, so you administered your own vigilante punishment.

I do not have a problem with that, but I would reserve such punishment for crimes against persons, not property.

Your actions also show that you do have faith in the ability of the police to protect you, as you called them first and waited until they were almost there before administering your 'punishment'. This way the person is punished without the police seeing and charging you with assault, and they are there to protect you in case the guy gets up and starts to beat the daylight out of you.

Perhaps you will now be more understanding of those of us who live in more remote areas where we do not have a police presence within a few minutes and chose to own firearms because we cannot rely on the police to get here in time.

But it is alway intersting to learn about ourselves, you never really know how you will react to a situation until you experience that situation.
