Trail Food/Snacks
I'm looking for any info on what you all like to take as quick food and especially snacks on the trail. I'm a scouter with a new Venture Crew, so I'm talking EASY/QUICK and good stuff here. Also, have any of you ever packed crunchy or easily crumbled foods into a bubble wrap type bag in your pack? Did it work?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hummus and pita bread. Cut up the pita bread, stuff it in a resealable bag. Put the hummus in a squeeze tube.

On one trip grossed out a few people as you "pinch" the hummus out of the tube, but tasty stuff!

For trail food I generally try to find foods that are at least 100 cal per ounce.

Some of my favorites in no particular order are:
Cheezits
Cliff Bars
Fig Newtons
Snickers
Wheat & Cheddar crackers

These keep my body well fueled while I’m hiking.

I don't know how many calories they have, but raisins saved my butt one day when I was short on water and had to hike 3 1/2 miles without it.

for snacks and such, i like those Snickers Marathon Bars - even used them for lunch a couple of times, i'd rather not "cook" for lunch in the summer.

also, cheese or granola bars for snacks.

For dinner its a dehydrated bag of leftover food from home usually - spaghetti, chili or stew is good.

Breakfast is generally instant otmeal.

Mollie, for stuff that will get crushed, use an old pringles can, crystal light plastic container or a tupperware type plastic container.

Pringles are yummy on the trail! :-)

Thinkbubelz and I like Triscuits, dried (dehydrated) cracker spreads (hummus, black bean spread, tuna/chickpea spread, etc.)

I haven't tried it yet, but we're considering the "babybel" cheeses (in individually wrapped servings)

Peanut butter in a tube....

Nutty Bars
Sunbelt granola bars (yummy AND cheap)
Costco (Kirkwood) Trail mix and add some dried fruits to it....
Dried Mangoes (try the ones without the preservatives and sugar.)

I think someone else on TT mentioned before that whatever you bring, you should make sure the food is stuff you like to eat.

Crackers and Cheese?
Anyone remember Handi-snacks? Good stuff.

The pretzel stick and cheese variety is really good too; Gets some of that salt back into the body...

Most dehydrators have a plastic sheet that fits into the tray for sauces and small stuff.

Anyone can come to the party. The trout is really good - you find it at Trader Joe's markets and it is packaged by Appel and it is a 3.88oz can. Ymmmmy.

It is a little heavy and bulky but as you can see weight is not an issue for me. Although I am taking a trip this summer for a week where I have asked a friend to help me learn how to travle lighter. Oh, I shudder at thought of freeze dried food for a week.

Then there's always Moose Goo...

Corn flour can be disguised as masa harina in the Hispanic section of your local grocery.

I've discovered that I don't really need trail snacks. I found I was eating too many calories while on the trail. I try to eat balanced meals and occasionally snack on a little bit of trail mix as I walk. I don't worry about getting more calories for my snacks. Found regular food was plenty to fuel me.

I just made an awesome trail snack. I was eating some chow mien noodles and thought they tasted bland so I threw them in a zip lock, drizzled some olive oil over them and sprinkled them with seasoned salt, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder and ground red pepper. They're the bomb!!!!

They also make them already made with those spices ... it's called "Top Ramen".
