Goto Trip Page: Just another backpacking trip to the Smokies

I got room for one more
this is going to be a buttkicker though.
Friday 22nd - Alum Cave to Icewater Springs (with side trips to the Jumpoff and Charlies Bunion)
Saturday 23rd - Icewater Springs to Mt. Collins.
Sunday - Mt. Collins to Clingmans Dome - Side trip to the Chimney Tops - after hike meal in Gatlinburg and then home.

I am trying to get MarkO to go, but if he can't go, then the next person to confirm they can go has the spot.

isn't maine like.....HOURS away from pa?? and it seems you always head south to hike...

lol I think Maine is closer to PA than Nashville - well I guess they're equal. Probably around 700 miles. That is pretty far. My focus is shifting to the north now, The Whites, Adirondacks and Catskills. Although, I do love the souhern sixers.

I plan on hiking in Maine sometime this summer though.

oh, the other Gibbs is near Celo, It's a cool 20 foot scramble to get up to it. I never found the ribbon that's supposed to mark the spot, but I'm pretty sure I stood on the summit. I almost fell off the mountain looking for it. Gemini remembers that trip lol.

phils..but its not on a sixer. When I go alone I take pics of the benchmark with my boot...would that suffice?
Carlette

Gang...there is only 1 Gibbes mountain that counts towards your sixers cert. that is Mt. Gibbes ...the one near Clingmans Peak with the NCST weather station on it. Clingmans Peak has the fenced in TV and radio station site.

oh, I wasn't looking for evidence. When you complete the sixer conquest, I think they just want you to write an essay on each peak descibing the features.

I was just asking cuz there aren't enough pics of you around.

According to the guidebook, both Gibbs Mountain and Mt. Gibbs counts towards the goal.

that'd be cool. but I decided after researching it that day hikes might be safer..the wild boars particuarly scare me....has anyone been killed up there recently from animals?

Guyot if approached the wrong way is really a butt-smacker....you can get lost in that dead fall very easy.

Mt Guyot in the Smokies?

Look for the biggest patch of brambles. I seem to remember that the benchmark was in there.
