Verycool!

Does anyone know the name of the group that leaves books on park benches, et c. for anonymous exchange?

Maple has already scored us a china cabinet, a refrigerator (on the same day ours went down, mind you), a sail boat, two wind surfers, a cordless telephone and a few other assorted small items. Freecycle rocks!

Thanks for the 411 techtrek.

I love freecycle! I just found it a few months ago. I have a great bookbag I use for school I got through freecycling. The best thing is getting rid of stuff, imo. I've given away about twenty five-gallon pails, a spare tire for a jeep cherokee w/cover.

So far I've only had one bad experience. I was granted a box full of yahtzee score cards and when I went for pick up the person wasn't home and hadn't put the box out on her porch like expected. Oh well.

Just joined, thanks for the link. I'm looking for busted and broken concrete for use as rip-rap for erosion control.

See! I'd have to pay to have my old sidewalk carted away. This is a great idea.

I've created a monster! Do you know how many people want to get rid of busted concrete and bricks! My email is overflowing. I'm gonna have to rent a dump truck.

My local group is pretty active. I posted an ad to give away some assorted pots and pans on Saturday night and had about 20 replys by yesterday afternoon.

Ours is too. It's the best place to get rid of misc junk ever! People came and took stuff that we would have had to pay to dump at the junkyard. I adore freecycle.

Just in case anyone is interested in signing up: www.freecycle.org

I think she's referring to a conversation we had this weekend, Tech.

Good luck ditching the boxes Dhutch!

I replaced 3 kids' beds, and posted the mattresses & frames on freecycle, thinking nobody wants used mattresses...wrong. The replies filled my in box for 2 weeks.

Much more satisfying seeing a broke & struggling young couple cart the stuff away than the garbage man.

I thought it was referring to your post earlier today. I just chuckled how you got thanked for showing them freecycle, when I started this thread 10 months ago. Call me Rodney Dangerfield...ain't get no respect...

Oh, techntrek I wish I had read your post previously! It would have saved my car a winter outdoors. Sass mentioned the group this weekend and it was coincidental that the post showed up today. I joined and offered up those moving boxes. Thanks to you both :-)

I am signed up for the freecycle in Nashville. I am also on a Nashville Trader where people post things for sell. I have noticed a few people who are on both sites. They are taking the free stuff then posting it on the other (sell) site. I haven't read the guidelines but don't they (freecycle) frown on that?

Hey Ewk-
freecycle has strict guidelines posted and that's big no-no. I can't believe people would take away from others who are more needy (presumably) to try to turn a buck over.

I've had such good experiences with freecycle and all of the people I've met through various exchanges have been great people. I've given away more than I've gotten, but either way it leaves me with a good feeling in general.

Just got rid of about 1/2 the packing boxes clogging my garage! Hopefully the other ones will go soon too. My car is tired of sleeping outside of a 2 1/2 car garage.

The family that came to take the boxes seemed really nice. Has anyone had bad experiences? I was reading the guidelines and safety tips and it even started to get me a little paranoid.

Cool beans Dhutch!

I tend to go with porch pick up (leave whatever it is on my porch for them). Only when I got rid of our wood burning stove did a stranger have to come into our house. He was pretty cool.

Shane greated everyone this weekend with a "waggy-waggy-circle-circle". He must have sensed that they were nice.

Today must be a good day for funny ads on here!
Check these two out!

[FCNYC] Offer: forearm part of the sweater (hairy arms)

Not sure how to describe these ... My aunt made me a nice sweater, but
the entire forearms were knitted with a really fuzzy dark brown yarn.
(I think it's called eyelash yarn?) The sweater was tan, so it
basically looked like a naked suit with hairy arms. To save the
sweater, I cut the arms off, but I thought someone who plans ahead
might want them for a Halloween costume or something. Again, this is
just the forearm part of the sweater. Pick-up in East Village.

OUTSIDE OF EXPRESS BTWN WEST 75th and 76th on Columbus there are black,
white, and silver manequin parts some with boobs and some with pecs and two
huge disco balls...its a total party, and you are invited!

I just scored a really nice wood burning stove fireplace insert for my brother who has been looking for one for a while. He's so giddy.
