Yet another one of my stupid stories. I'm looking for my story about the wasp nest in the shed but I can't find it :( I'll be sure to share it if I do... because that one is funny! :D

***********************************

If the radiance of a thousand suns
Were to burst at once into the sky
That would be like the splendor of the Mighty one...
I am become Death,
The shatterer of Worlds.
-Bhagavad-Gita

Life. Growth. Harmony. These are the symbols you think of when you hear
the words Mother Nature. She is the essence of life, the animals, the
trees, the land, the water. She tends the green fields and herds the noble.
She gives flight to the eagle; she gives strength to the bear. She gives us
food, shelter, warmth, and water. Mother nature, the matron of all that
lives.

She keeps a secret from us, or perhaps we keep it from ourselves. Mother
Nature also has a darker side, a side of her personality we try our best to
overlook. She is the bearer of death. Her animals mercilessly slaughter
each other for food, her insects feed upon the dead and sucks the blood from
the living. Her creatures spread disease and famine devistating millions of
her animals. The heat of her sun steals the life giving water from the
fields; she returns the water in a tempest of fury that no man-made object
can withstand. She is the giver of life; she is the bringer of Death.

My morning commute started out like many other. The routine has become a
symbolic ritual that gives life to my iron horse! Key in ignition. Engine
in Neutral. The Starter to feed my steed it?s power! Helmet on and
strapped. Jacket zipped and snapped. Gloves on. I am ready to depart.

After two weeks of rain I was glad to see the Sun in my morning commute to
work. The 40 miles is easier to bear without the extra burden of rain. The
crisp morning air cut through my specially designed leather jacket, the
chill wrapped around me like a blanket. This morning started out like any
other. The ride to work would be uneventful.

The winter had been easy on Bird. With little to no freezing temperatures
to kill the population of bugs in the region he was sure to be fat and
content this spring. Searching for a place to rest his weary body Bird saw
a perfect sanctuary. A large jutting concrete structure connected two
sloping hills of earth and stone. Bird came to rest on a steel beam. The
cold metal felt good to his clawed feet. Here he decided to rest, Bird
still had many miles to go before he reached his home.

My throttle hand urged more power from of the beast. 75-80-85-90MPH. The
landscape became a blur, I was one with the bike. The trees waved to me as
I flew past them, to them I was nothing more then a streaking red arrow
flying through the forest. I was at one with my surroundings; I was at one
with nature. I settle into a steady rhythm at 90MPH. My concentration
never faltered, feeding input to the machine as the perfect time. Years of
training and thousands of miles of road had linked my bike and me together.
We act as a single unit whose sole purpose is to devour the miles,
slaughtering the challenges the harsh world has to offer. The blue haired
ladies, the guy in the mustang wanting a race, the pool of oil in the road,
the darting deer in the middle of the road. I do not face the challenges
alone, my VFR is underneath me carrying me ever through untold dangers
unharmed.

Wild Beast! A large growling monster charged right for Bird! Bird looked
at the beast?s two glowing eye with horror, caught in it?s fiery gaze. In
an instant Bird exploded into motion. Instinct would carry the bird from
danger; his instincts had never faulted him before. Harder he pushed his
wings! Even in flight the glowing eyed monster still gained upon him!
Pulling with all his might bird dealt his final card. Bird banked as hard
as he could to his left nearly snapping his body with the strain of the
sudden and explosive movement! The glowing eyed monster passed by missed
his assault by inches! The blast of the air pushed off by the beast slammed
into Bird, throwing him forward into a somersault. The force blew the air
from Bird lungs, and then? Black.

***

I saw the approaching 18-wheeler. I relaxed my grip on the throttle letting
loose some of the speed my VFR had gathered. I saw it in an instant, only a
black spec in the headlights of the approaching vehicle. The bird banked
hard, turning right into my path. Instincts I did not know I had threw my
body into motion. Muscled pulled taut upon the tendons, the tendons drove
the skeleton, my body exploded into motion in an instant. In less then half
a second I push my body behind the protective windscreen, if I had but
another half second I could have avoided contact all together!

The bird?s body slammed into the crown of my helmet. I could hear the
destruction of the bird, ripping sinew, breaking bones, and tearing flesh.
All I could see was an explosion of feathers and blood as the force of the
impact with the bird threw my head violently to the side. I am become
death, Shiva destroyer of worlds.

***

I did not stop inspect the carnage. There was more then enough evidence
splattered upon my visor to prove that I had dealt a killing blow to the
bird. I had become too comfortable around Mother Nature; she does not favor
the weak or the un-attentive. Our paths crossed showing me once again to
stay wary of Mother Nature, giver of life, and the bringer of death.
