Took my 8 yo son and another father/son for a 3 day backapack in the Cumberland Gap NHP. What a gem! We hiked from Pinnacle to Ewing, camping at Gibson Gap and Martin Branch. We all explored the massive sinkhole and cracks in the rock at mp 7. The boys explored all the buildings at Hensley settlemnet, floated "rafts" down Martins Fork, played in the sand at Sand Cave, and enjoyed the views at White Rocks. We spotted deer, wild turkey, and hawks
We hiked 24 miles over 3 days, an accomplishment for the boys.

Hope to return in the fall for another hike and exploration. With the leaves coming out the views will soon disappear. It was amazing to see the Smokies so close to the south. Camped with 2 groups of scouts Saturday. I suspect the park has scouts everywhere on weekends

I agree on the White Rocks. The view from there is probably the best I've found east of the Rockies.

Glad to hear your son liked it. Before long he will be doing the Blacks with you.
